I am going to miss this vintage. Very deep colour, dark ink almost opaque. The wine has aged well and probably could have lasted another 10 years (not me though). Nose is still fruity with mocha undertones. There is a spicier palate with smokiness to the wine. It is rich and thick on your palate and has nice smooth finish.

This wine displays dark berry fruit that mingles with mocha aromas; spicy toasted oak notes; and a savoury gamey edge. Soft ripe tannins linger in the background while the palate remains full of rich sweet and sour notes and a powerful finish.

Production was limited to just 550 cases and it is noticeably more concentrated and complex due to low yielding older vines. I let this one open for about an hour in the decanter before tasting. Flavoursome and uniquely Quails Gate this wine displays dark berry fruit that mingles with mocha aromas; spicy toasted oak notes; and a savoury gamey edge. Soft ripe tannins linger in the background while the palate remains full of rich sweet and sour notes and a powerful finish.

Great wine at 5 years of age, fruit, earth and very soft tannin.

Smoke, bacon, floral hints on the nose, also some heat. Rustic style, with under-ripe blackberry flavors and a biting bitter edge.
