The youngest and least ready in a trio of 2002 red burgs served blind to friends. Plenty of plush, spice-filled black cherry with a high-end pedigree but still holding some unwound power in reserve. Upside from here.

Burgundy BBQ (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Double blind in what turned out to be a 2002 flight. Clear 1er Cru density here. Rich red fruit and nicely spiced, still slightly firm, so not quite perfectly balanced. I identified the vintage range correctly, but thought it from 2000.

A little brownish. Beautiful deep lush nose with spices, spruce needles and cherries. The palate is first a little firm ond tough, but that changes after about an hour. Still some grip but thats overshadoved by sweet cherry and some minerality. There's plenty of substance here and a long finish. This will last for many years and might even improve. A beauty.

Red center, slight fading. Burgundian aromas of smoke, game, and red fruit. Medium weight, crisp fruit without seeming fruity, a dash of herbs, fine acidity and some remaining tannin. Definitely not a lush 2002 but very fine and much better and more complete than when tasted 5 years ago. Quite a nice match with a mushroom soufflé. Should continue to please for another 5 years.

(Hudelot-Noellat Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots) Medium ruby-red colour. The nose starts quite high-toned and a little creamy before going through a mineral and earthy stage with flashes of red fruit then bonfire - you need a little patience, but there is just so much dimension to be found - bravo. The entry and mid-palate start a little disappointing after the previous wine but minute by minute the palate opens wider and wider. The finish is very good and whilst the tannins are a little grainy but they are ripe and grab the mouth and help cement the flavours of the finish. Slow to blossom, but excellent and pips the previous wine.

Amazing wine. We drank 2 bottles of 2002 Les Suchots 1er Cru. It was unbelievable. For my 59th Birthday lunch/party on July 10, 2022 | Great success.
