  • Very dark red/purple color. PNP, aerated into glasses, drank 2 glasses over 90 minutes. Nose has cherry, spice, oak, and hints of tobacco. The palate is medium plus bodied, loamy, dark cherry fruit, sour cherry, spice, oak and more tobacco showing with firm medium grained tannins. 88+pts.

  • Opened the bottle and the normal Inglenook aroma came out of the bottle.

Let it decant for 2 hours.

Initial tasting after decant: claret-style look to it. Strong legs around the glass. Expected structure and some complexity but what I got was simple, which doesn't mean it was a bad thing. Medium body with a nice silky finish. In fact, it is silky from the moment it enters your mouth.

Earthly elements to it along with plum in the front palate. Hint of cigar/tobacco in the rear palate. Some spice at the end which for me was a positive extra.

I never tasted this in its infancy so I can't judge or comment on how it has evolved. I have an additional 8 bottles so with the incoming Coravin, I will be able to judge how this evolves over the next 3-4 years. I do remember the Inglenook memberhip notes for this bottle was that it would be the one with the longest life of the 2007 vineyard lots. Now I'm intrigued to see how the Four, Seven, and Fourteen are tasting at this point in time to compare.

For those with a bottle or two I would say drink now. Im not sure if this has the structure to evolve over the next 2-4 years but I'm willing to save 2-3 bottles to try over the next 2-4 years with a Coravin just for the heck of it.
