Sublime to say the least and this was the final bottle and the star of the night (after having one too many including an ‘86 Latour). In my mind, La Violette has the finesse of Burgundian rouges but lacks not the structure and body of great Bordeaux vintages. At 30 years of age it remains opulent and complex, with layers and layers of dark cherries, ripened plums, violets, chocolate and forest floor. Off dry, fresh acidity, medium+ alcohol, high complexity, silky tannins with a slight grip, medium+ finish and overall texture is round and the wine balanced. Capable of cellaring another decade but drinking so well now. A really seductive bottle of wine.
