  • Excellent. Not over the top. Oak isn't overpowering now. Better balanced.

  • Decanted. Opaque, dense black purple core all the way to the rim. On the nose, coffee grounds, cigar box, cedar, sweet smoke, pencil lead, blackberry juice and blueberry. Heavy oak influence. On the palate, the wine follows the nose with a heavy-handed, toasted oak influence (hefty elevage - 31 months in 100% new oak!?). The wine is soft but dense, low to moderate acids and silky(?) tannins with notes of concrete dust, black olive, tobacco, bittersweet cocoa, ripe blueberry, diet black cherry cola and a long, smoky-clove finish. With only 14% abv. from Paso Robles I was really looking forward to enjoying this wine. Unfortunately the oak is overpowering at this stage. Wait and drink in 6-10 years.
