It’s been a while since it tasted Chardonnay and honestly speaking I am not an expert. Not to mention getting a 2001 vintage. Though not from burgundy, it open up an entirely new perspective for me on aged Chardonnay! Initial aroma when first opened reminded me of brandy. An old type of brandy like Martel VSOP kind. Probably with the golden yellow liquid in my Riedel Veritas Chardonnay wine glass. A swirl and the first note that hit my nose are wooden note like oak, cedar and pine. After 30 minutes ripe banana, barley and butterscotch buttered popcorn just came out secondary note. Low tannis and acidity bring out the balanced taste. Oh did I mention the long finish with pandan leaf lingering in my mouth.. Savouring every drop. OMG Loving it!

Opened not decanted. Pale yellow / straw colored; nice nose of refined citrus; slightly elevated alcohol and acidity; a clean, spicy, tangy finish. A solid, middle of the road, Good.
Day 2: what a difference a day makes. Today was a warmer day and the bottle was out on the counter pickiing up some afternoon sun. The wine is now at a warmer temp than yesterday, and 24 hours later it is fatter, buttery and oakey. Still a little noticable alcohol bite, but a much better wine today. Per JP website, bottled December 2002.

Aromatic, apple, toast, fig, hazelnut and vanilla nose. Full and dry with an assertive structure; not over-ripe with superb oak treatment. 13.5% abv. 5/5
