Not going to change anyone's mind very dramatically about merlot, but it did have a little tannin, so it wasn't bad at all. Stelvin cap, totally reasonable price (a gift to me from my father, who paid less than $10 because he ALWAYS pays less than $10). Confirms my suspicion that Carneros is mostly a good place to grow merlot, and merlot probably grows better there than it does in the Napa Valley proper. To my thinking, the wetter soils and slightly cooler weather of Carneros are what Merlot wants.

Dark purple. Blueberry, oak, and spice nose. Medium bodied, boysenberries, rich black cherries, pepper, sweet tannins, cedar, and a medium to long finish. A bit woody, but excellent qpr at the Trader Joe closeout price.

Paired this wine with my homemade spicy beef & linguisa sausage chilli. It was a screw top and it was opened and drank with no breathing time. It has a nice body but a bit of a bite. A chocolate truffle smoothed the bite out.

Quite a nice, correct wine; well made with a touch of herbal deep fruit, good acidity. Went well with homemade pizza.
