Black with thin edge of purple and slight brick. Full body with big alcohol aroma. Fresh black fruit assaulted my nose with hints of mushroom and truffle. There was a funk of exotic nature smelling quite unique, but it was obviously ripe Syrah. Giant of a wine and the alcohol smacked of serving at too high a temperature. Threw it in the fridge for a few minutes. This big guy needed to cool down. Into my glass I threw an ice cube for 6 seconds. That really brought out its woody, earthy nature. It smelled of barnyard and wet dusty, straw. Fresher fruit lifted forward too with some bitter herbal notes, finishing with some green rind aftertaste. Luc really knows how to capture a decent vintage.
From the fridge, it had cooled back to 55. It held similar notes but was a totally different beast. It needed time with more oxygen, but not airated, and cooler temperature to be at its best. I could live in that nose. It reminded me of a 2004 Rhys Alesia where it was this exact sort of funk times 20. More cola mixed with truffle barnyard was an amazing nose. Cooling it did tame the alcohol but it was still astringent and slightly medicinal. Had other cough syrup notes of bitter herb as well. But it also returned to chocolate It needed a thick juicy rib eye. 8/10
For my palate there was too much obvious alcohol. Funny how just 2% alcohol differences were striking. The 12% wines I have enjoyed seemed incredibly tame and much easier drunk by comparison. And those wines didn't need to be so temperature controlled.

A well made syrah. Poured off a glass for an hour. Loved the wine more earlier on. Became bigger as time went on over 4 hours.

Pop and pour. Delicate, light-bodied Syrah that put on weight over four hours. Balanced notes of dark fruit, coffee, smoked meat.

Big and beautiful. Decanted and drank over 4 hours. Got better throughout. But, it did get heavier at the end. 14.7 alc. not noticeable.
