A bit disappointing. Classic flavour profile of pepper, dark fruits and even some oyster shell salinity. But overall a bit muted and lightweight and dull, probably not bad for the vintage but you expect something special when you open a bottle of Hermitage. I wouldn’t bother holding this any longer.

Garnet with some fading but still a substantial colour. Nose is a bit disappointing. Earthy, black fruit and a metallic tang. In the mouth the fruit is present, uninteresting and receding. The blood and iron are there, along with a herbal lift and some earthy notes. Might one call it rustic? Tannins are fine and length is medium. I don’t want to damn with faint praise but faint praise is about as far as I can go. It’s ok.

Initially somewhere between my two previous notes - hints of truffles, roast meats, lots of rich cherry and blackcurrant fruit. With a few hours in the decanter, I almost though I was drinking Pauillac! Evolved more into a creamy cassis direction with touches of pepper and leather. In a really nice place, with lots of finesse and pleasantly fine tannins. Harmonious might be a good description, along with delicious.

Method: decanted for 2 hours, rebottled and had an hour later; 66 degrees; Cab glass
Look: medium garnet, browning *very* slightly; medium about of medium speed legs
Nose: mushroom, cherry Twizzler, wet forest floor, chocolate, bacon grease, sweet tobacco, light olive; not very expressive, but very complex
Palate: cherry, dark cherry, milk chocolate, pepper, tobacco; long finish of dried herbs, cigar box, tobacco smoke, leather; dry; medium- body; medium+ soft, a bit rougher than velvet tannins; high- acidity
Overall thoughts: Elegant and very complex, and I love the herbal notes, but it's higher acidity than I prefer in reds. Great wine.

decanted 45 minutes, served with Venison Stew. Medium body, smooth, dark fruit, well balanced.
