Cork seemed very soft, too easy coming out. Dark red color, cab franc on the nose and palate. This has softened a lot. Something seemed a bit off somehow. The nose had some unpleasantness about it, and the flavor was just kind of meh. Also loads of sediment in bottle. Cave Ridge sits in a beautiful location -- but can't compete with the likes of Glen Manor or Linden in terms of quality or taste.

decided to revisit this again after the disappointing showing in March. Pop and pour through the vinturi. Happy to report that tonight's bottle was terrific. In fact, after all of that "sharp" discussion below, the wine tonight wasn't sharp in any way. It was rich and deep, with a dark purple color and a palate of red/blue fruit flavors to match. quite happy with this.

Opened on a Friday and noted sharp odors similar to gray's TN. Rather than pour it out, left in decanter, and didn't revisit until Sunday. Funky sharp notes on first re-sniff, but gone and then very smooth, complex wine revealed itself. Due to wine overload for the weekend, this bottle lasted until Monday night and final glass was still full of vibrant fruit, very nice balance and meidium drying tannins at the finish. I don't know if the sharp notes are a shut down sign or just something that needs to blow off with an extra long decant. Don't pour it out, let sit and recheck periodically.

The "touch sharp" in my prior note was more severe in this bottle, so we opened another bottle to see if perhaps this was an off bottle. Unfortunately, both of the two bottles today were the same. The prior note still generally holds true (full mouthfeel/pepper notes from cab franc/etc) but the sharpness is more dominant, really to the point of distracting from the wine. Disappointing.

rich, full mouthfeel. nose is deep dark fruit flavors. the wine is a touch sharp on the palate. cab franc is prominent here with a delightful peppery finish. a winner.
