  • Solid wine. Got better with air and closer to room temp. Although not enough complexity. Maybe a product of the vintage as i'm generally partial to clos de chenes. Left something to be desired. A bit lean and short at times.

  • Once again, this is excellent and in a very good place right now, at the tail end of its primary development. Lovely woodsy notes (if you like that in your '08s, which I do), accompanied by a floral/violet lift and a core of black cherry fruit.

  • I've gone through about half a dozen bottles of this particular wine over the years, one that I have followed since its youth. I really like this wine, but those who don't like much "greenness" in their burgundy will likely be less impressed than me. I'm admittedly a fan of green/vegetal/savory notes in wines, from cab franc-heavy Bordeaux to whole cluster pinot. I am a fan of '08 Burgs for the same reason I like '88 Medocs. This nervy wine features black cherry, tobacco, spice, plum and mineral notes, with bright acidity and a smooth, medium-long, spice-laden finish. Fading a bit on day 2, so I would put the optimal drinking window at now-5 years.

  • After recently finishing my final bottle of the cache I purchased on release, I decided to reload based on the last bottle's showing. This is a rustic, sappy wine, with crushed rock, violets, cigar box and forest floor on the nose, along with high-toned pomegranate and damson plum. Earthy fruit profile, perhaps some pyrazines but not nearly at the level of '04s. Lovely acidity and good balance, with crunchy red fruit and minerals on the finish. This is drinking really well now, but has room for improvement, so I'd suggest a window of now-2030.

  • This is just starting to enter its prime drinking window. It has been 7 years since my last bottle. Still rather closed aromatically, but opened up within about 30 minutes. Flowers and herbs with cigarbox on the nose. Spicy Volnay character, with cedar, black raspberry and a bit of forest floor on the palate. An elegant but a bit rustic expression of pinot noir.
