Dinner at Liuyishou (Chicago, IL): #10-06, 8% abv. Pushes the sweetness too much for a Spätlese -- this comes off as too plump and soft, without much acidity or structure to counterbalance that sweetness. Maybe even a touch roasted with the fruit.

Beautiful, very deep golden color. Kerosene, oily, tropical nose with a pretty floral undertone. Very little acidity on the palate, but again showing tropical fruit, turning more honeyed through the shortish, almost Sauternes-like finish. I found this very enjoyable for current drinking, or to hold for just a short time longer.

The nose here could be a little more giving, showing apple cider & lemon. Med-full slightly oily textured body. The palate is less shy and follows through on the aromas, just hinting at some minerality. I get the feeling this could be in a bit of a dumb phase (and clearly too young!). All the signs are there for this to be great; ample acidity, pleasing mouthfeel, a nice finish and great balance of sugars, acids, fruit & minerals. I should have gotten another bottle, knowing I'd drink this one too early.
