Bright red. A pongy, earthy nose – could almost be a Hunter shiraz, excpet for the hint of stewed jam beneath. The palate surprises again; there’s an almost pinot-like lightness to the texture, a spiciness to the fruit flavours, and only minimal tannin, with little appreciable oak. A blend of grenache and pinot, then! A quite short finish is the biggest let-down for this early drinker.
