  • This was a long shot curiosity purchase and the investment was not a lot. I will not be purchasing more nor am I encouraged to try more Croatian wines especially as some have suggested this is one of the better ones. There is a chance this bottle is well past its prime, however, the bottle notes suggest it can really age. I'm going to say no. Unless the end result becomes a port???

Appearance - pale garnet. There is a muddied water look to it. The color is not inviting, making you assume flavor will be watered down. Some sediment in bottle. It has a blood like look to it - perhaps the name Sangreal???

nose - oxidation. Stewed fruits, black cherry, prunes, spices, cinnamon, nutmeg. Medium intensity. Developed/ing. Some alcohol burn.

Palate - dry, medium acidity, medium - tannins on finish, medium - alcohol, body is medium -, flavor intensity is medium, flavors are what you expect from nose. To me, feels like a wine that is turning. Length medium.

I question the claim that this wine can age longer. This is not my style or taste and I'm even drinking it out of a Rhone glass in hopes it improved.

There is much better wine out there and life is too short!

  • (From memory) Nice Syrah nose with a surprisingly 'Aussie' tone to it. Bit of mint and chocolate. Firm tannins on the palate with a medium finish. Best Croatian red wine imo.
