Christmas in a bottle! The wine was dark ruby in colour and offered ripe cherry, prune, raisin, punch, gingerbread and chocolate notes on the nose and palate, with prominent acidity, medium- to medium-plus tannin and good length. The medium-bodied wine was ripe and sweet, almost syrupy. It had good concentration, but the fruit seemed roasted and the wine was not fully harmonious, in particular the acidity seemed artificial and was disintegrated. Alcoholic, too. OK-ish at first, but I felt unable to drink more than one glass. Would not buy again.

Bought this bottle (and others) in 2008 in Santorini at the winery (Greek label) and had it shipped to me. It's been buried away in the house with no special cellaring although the temp is generally 72-75 as I live in San Francisco. Popped it open today to pair with bucatini and meat spaghetti sauce. Wine had thrown a lot of sediment which stayed in & on the bottle as I decanted the light brick red wine. Some funk on the nose blew off as it opened up and then was an easy drinking delicious wine with nice juicy acidity, not much tannin and no heat. Couldn't really put my finger on the exact notes, but was very nice including orange, damson plum, Kalamata olive and at times even milk chocolate covered strawberries....go figure, but all went together nicely. Long smooth juicy finish. A great surprise which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Kotsifali-syrah blend. Nose: sweet oak and dark fruit. Palate: similar, modern, decently pleasing 87-89. The kotsifali adds a characteristic aroma, I'm told.

Kotsifali / Syrah blend. Deep red/ purple with violet edges. Heavy oak on the nose, very rustic (have seen this with other Cretan Syrahs), later berries and slight earth comes through. Alcohol heat very evident on both nose and palate. Medium bodied. Berries on palate but somehow just seems "fake" to me. Acidity and tannins are both slight. Can't make my mind up whether it's disjointed or boring. Not saying much to me although a Greek wine journalist raves about it - perhaps it was an off bottle...
