Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • {screwcap, 12.5%} Pale yellow with lime streak to it. Mostly youthful nose of smoked cheddar and seashells, with a touch of brine. The palate is fairly dense, with a sort of waxed apple-skin character to it, some greasiness to the texture, although the acid is there is you look for it. There are the same slightly developed flavours that the nose points to, with a lanolin chaser to them; it is medium-full bodied, despite its oak-free state, and has most of its action on the mid-palate. Finish is dry, medium-length, and kind of yellowing (think browning apples). Probably best within a couple of years. Like to taste one of these really old, but it hasn't happened yet.

  • {screwcap, 12.5%, A$13} Pale straw, some green. Intense, youthful nose of lemon, lanolin and wax. The palate is lovely and dense, with those same thick waxy flavours, as though the grapeskins themselves are somehow pulped into the wine. Definitely medium-bodied, with a solid front and middle palate, there's some acid to keep it going for the short term, although the finish is a little short. Unusual and attractive. Drink over 3 years.
