Deep garnet with a purple rim. Nose was a youngish black fruits, plums. Taste was amazingly medium weight with black and red fruits, hint of fresh oregano. Much better than some recent reviews have implied.

Not quite up to snuff compared to most Abreu wines but still solid nonetheless. The Cabernet Franc is always so evident on these wines and what’s makes them so layered and complex. Black currant, tobacco leaf, cedar, fig, and vanilla. It’s rich, layered and complex but lacks some of the lift and freshness to balance out the other flavors. Very good but not transcendent.

After a long wait, this Cappella 2006 is outstanding. Tannins are soft, and though hard to identify, the aromas are very pleasing like a mountain of fresh trees and wild plants near a stream. Mouth watering too, and wonderful with a great steak.

Really disappointed in this wine. Was it in a funky place or just past its time? It did not live up to its name. It lacked structure and had too much fruit for the tannins.

(Abreu Vineyard Cappella Rico-Matteo Abreu Vineyard) The inaugural vintage for one of Abreu’s newest vineyards, a 6-acre plot just south of Madrona Ranch in St. Helena, this bottling will not be released until fall. (The Cappella and Howell Mountain vineyards are named after Abreu’s children.) Elegant and restrained, beautifully balanced and pure, it contains more Cabernet Sauvignon than any of the other blends. No decant, drank over 2 hours. Cranberry, coffee, red and purple fruits. Good acidity, still fresh and drinking beautifully.
