Great bottle. I agree with others that the smokey flavor has mellowed significantly vs the last bottle I had 4 years ago. This has held up and is drinking well right now.

tasted this at the winery in 2013 and had definite smokey nose and flavor due to the fires. Opened our last bottle tonite. First swirl had smokiness in the nose but it dissipated and was not noticeable on the palate. Got slight hints of the smoke on subsequent swirls. Color has hints of an older wine...not dark, rich red but more of a red bronzy/brown color. Decent legs. Complicated wine - hints of fruit but certainly not fruit forward. Somewhat acidic. Hints of toast but didn't get the marshmellow or caramel others have mentioned. Overall, very balanced and very pleasant. Drank it with fresh salmon, grilled on a cedar plank.

I think wormfarmer has this almost exactly right. We tasted the smoke, which my wife sees as a virtue, at the winery, but if it is still there, it's much less pronounced. Truffle-y, earthy (okay, redundant), with currant, cola, and a potpourri of berry and floral notes, but entirely its own profile, much more savory than the usual pinot. Not exactly caramel, but like the top of creme brulee without the cloying sweetness.

Soft, lush, but a touch too much acidity for solo drinking - yet matches great with food

Probably at the end of it's best drinking time. Nice cherry tastes, but the color is turning brown.
