1970s Wines for Edwin's Birthday (La Bracceria, Greendale Avenue): Very nice, especially for its age. This had a mature Burg nose of earthy sous bois, menthol and wood spice swirling around a core of dark cherries and berries, and then a lift of violets. Lovely stuff. The palate was perhaps just a tad less exciting, but still lovely nonetheless, with dark cherries and red fruit, and then sweet floral touches, all these seasoned with a sprinkle of herb and nice bit of spice dancing into a lively finish. Really alive, and punching above its weight. Yummy.

From a pristine looking bottle purchased at a S.F. restaurant, this was a bit of a gamble as I was not familiar with the producer. The wine had thrown some sediment and displayed a red center and light red/orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose was excellent, showing raspberries, soil, and brown spices.
This wine was rather soft and understated at first but developed well with air. While it had excellent balance and texture in the mouth, it did not have the stunning soil complexity you get in the best aged Burgundy. A nice wine that is ready to drink.

Best bottle so far. Had everything that an old burgundy should have and held up well over an hour.

Traditional Pommard nose of forest, barnyard and earth. Drinks well.
