Dim Sum Club at Summer Pavilion (Summer Pavilion, Ritz Carlton, Singapore): Decent enough - but not my cup of tea. This smelt like a Bordeaux on speed, with plums and mulberries, some funky earth and meat aromas, and then a touch of ferrous blood, all these soaked with a rather spriggy eucalyotus scents. The palate was marked with prickly acidity and a chew of slightly bittersweet tannins working its way through more plum and white mulberry notes, these again trailing away into eucalyptus inflected midpalate, and then an earthier, meatier every so slightly dry and woody finish. There is some complexity and interest on this, but not really my type of style. The slightly dry character did not quite help either.

Irvine Grand Merlot is close to as good as Merlot gets! At age 14, still gorgeous. Beautiful clean palette, lovely red fruit but not too much acid. Lovely food wine!

100% Merlot from the 23 ac Grand Merlot Block (1 of 6 vineyards over the 400+ ac estate) in Eden Valley with sandy loam over gravel, first planted in 1983 and now includes 7 Merlot clones. Aged 27 months in Allier oak. 15% Abv. Vineyards established in 1867 by the Miles family. Winery opened in 1980 by James and Marjorie Irvine (sold in 2014) Viticulturist: Peter Miles (4th gen)
From a 375 ml bottle.
A(ccuray)=2: Deep garnet/brick rim. Plummy, toasty varietal. B(alance)=2: Robust components coming forward in turn. C(omplexity)=2: Dark fruit preserve, spices, tobacco, leather. D(epth)=2: Dense mouthfeel. Rustic palate and lingering finish.
Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,2]= 8/10
Opened with the signature plummy Merlot core which quickly yielded to a dry oaky palate.

Big mouth filling fruit, chocolate and plum. Very smooth and long lasting. Very well balanced all components in harmony. Good wine very pleasing.
