Thanksgiving Dinner (Los Gatos, California): Tasted alongside the SGN Riesling from the same vintage. Hard to know if this was an SGN wine as well. At any rate, medium yellow color that is incredible for its age. Honey and spiced apple on the nose. Medium weight, creamy, and only moderate sweetness. Admirable acidity for such a hot year. The purity and focus are impeccable. Quite a head turner at age 45. Another superb, ageless 1976 late harvest Hugel wine.
Wine-Pages Alsace Offline (St John Restaurant, London): A very interesting nose with some pears and some oxidation. Possibly a bit closed? Seems unlikely. While it's very direct on the palate, it's really working very well and has plenty of interest. Huge concentration. Very enjoyable.

Complex nose of almond meal, crème brulee, lime and toast. Great purity and focus on the palate. There was still plenty of acidity and the faintest hint of sweetness towards the finish. A wine of excellent length and poise.
