NobleRottersSydney - Christmas Lunch 2011 (David's place): [screwcap, 13.5%] There’s a little development apparent on the nose of this light garnet-coloured wine; liqueured cherries with a touch of earth. Minimal oak. The palate comes as something of a surprise; it seems alarmingly sweet, almost jammy. Outside the asweetness, there is a stalky note to the flavours; this really does seem to have a mix of over- and under-ripe fruit in it. Thankfully some low powdery tannins are evident, but they still can’t swing this around to a properly balanced state. The rather short finish is most prominent on the tip of the tongue; although it’s an acceptable pinot there’s no point in keeping it longer.

Highlight of a night of great pinots. Refined and interesting, exactly what a pinot should be. Outshone bottles twice its price.
