dark purple dark fruit and a funky barnyard chemical hairspray-like smell. all of this was absent on the second day, leaving only black fruit. opens up sweet and ends with a somewhat bitter and acidic finish. rich upfront but finishes a bit lean. disjoint

Deep garnet color. I recommend not aerating this wine in the mouth, (I know-I know- sacrilegious...I just call it as I taste it-I'm a newbie, so take it for what it's worth ;-). This wine immediately reminded me of smooth, velvety chocolate , (without the thick consistency) , followed by raspberries, blueberries and a bit of tobacco... (at least I think that is what I taste?). The chocolaty sweetness is not overpowering, yet seemed to be much lighter in the mouth than I would expect (similar to a pinot noir maybe?) My guess is that age has served this well, to reveal a pleasant balance between semi and bittersweet chocolate-followed by intense combination of raspberries and blueberries...(so long as the alcohol doesn't interfere ). The tannins seemed to balance, the raspberry-seed finish. Very nice for the price.

Very disappointing Australian Shiraz. Simple and uninteresting, does not pick up any of the key varietal characteristics that make Shiraz one of my favorite wines.
