  • How Wines Age - Loire, Burgundy, Rhone: Tasted side by side with tne 1999 (see TN). The group was absolutely amazed to see what a few years in the cellar can do for Amouriers' Vacqueyras, which I have always felt greatly rewards mid-term cellaring. This time around, I'm a bit less impressed with the 2003 (see previous TN). Big, jammy, with Raspberry liquor. Very primary at present. The group unanimously preferred the 1999.

  • About $24. This note is from the second night of this bottle.

Deep ruby red color. Terrific stoney peppery earthy raspberry nose. Lively on the palate, tending toward bright fruit but with an underlying dirty earthyness that is very pleasing. The tannins are mild. I suspect the acid is low, helping this have a fat mouthfeel. The finish is great, nothing bitter or displeasing. What a great value wine, worthy of a score in the low 90s. I've already secured another 6.

  • Of the last eight or so vintages, this is by far the most extracted, superfruited example. Deep color. Massive, overflowing fruit aromas - juicy raspberry and black cherry. In the mouth, again, superfruited, with raspberry jam, espresso, and a faint underlying garrigue note. Some grip on the back end. I have no idea how this will age, but it's delicious now.
