Flight 2 - Mostly Meursault Charmes (6 Notes)

Flight 3 - Younger Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru (7 Notes)

  • 2001 Domaine Perrot-Minot Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru

Gamy aromas to start showing lots of Gevrey animale character along with some new oak that hasn't yet fully integrated. Good fruit on palate with some real power. Still most likely improving. Open a couple of hours before serving, but not decanted.

  • 2000 Domaine Prieuré Roch Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Sensational perfumed aromas to start with classically "Leroy" styled aromas. Unfortunately not as "Leroy" on the palate with very ripe red and black fruit showing a slightly muddy character and very advanced finish. "94 point" nose and "84 point" palate.

  • 2000 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Charmes-Chambertin 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Open a couple of hours, not decanted. Mostly red fruit aromas with an assertive earthy element. More ripe fruit on palate with modest spice. Good balance. At its peak today.

  • 2002 Domaine Ponsot Chapelle-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Open and decanted almost 3 hours before serving. Lush red and black fruit aromas with meaty spice. Slightly more black fruit oriented on palate, long, dense and slightly gamy on finish in a typical Gevrey-Chambertin manner. Clearly still in its infancy. A fascinating contrast to the charmingly rustic Trapet 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin in the next glass.

  • 2002 Domaine Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Black and red cherry aromas with real intensity and seemingly stern aromas. Red and black cherry flavors, very firmly structured and a great finsih with lots of power and energy. Fascinating contrast to the more ripe, lush Ponsot 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin in the next glass.

  • 2000 Domaine Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Mostly red fruit with simple spice and slightly meaty character. Sweet is nicely sweet and ripe on palate, but a bit angular.

  • 2002 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Open and decanted 2+ hours before serving. Ripe black cherry and boysenberry aromas with some background dark chocolate. Ripe black fruit on palate, long, powerful and precise, with some great spice at the end. Group's Wine of the Night, for me tied with Lafon's 2002 Meursault Charmes.
