Flight 1 - Radikon (8 Notes)

A brand I had seen but not had the chance to taste.
500 yards from Slovenian border.
Long skin maceration and wines aged and held back. Skin maceration is a preservative which allows them not to add SO2. Trace amount of sulfur is created through the process of fermentation, though.
Suzana poured initially but couldn't speak English. Son, Sasa was very nice and spoke very well.
Some of these were hard to like but others were really good as well as interesting.
Would like to learn more about the style and try these with the correct foods.

  • 2013 Radikon Slatnik

    Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT

    80% Chardonnay; pale amber yellow; intense nose, grain, honey, herbal, yeast; tannic grip; ok.

    Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT

    Deep copper color; yeast, smells like sour beer, grain; pleasant grip, funky finish; not for me.

  • 2008 Radikon Oslavje

    Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT

    Chard, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon; 4 months on skins; deep onion skin color; very perfumed, exotic, floral, honey, slight note of Sherry; good balance; very nice.

    Peachy orange color; more fruit on the nose, dried; very nice power and balance, rancio on finish is pleasant.

    Aged, crimson core with orange rim; aged on nose, soy, red cherry; tannic, high toned, long finish.

    Crimson core with rusty rim; wilted flowers, cherry, caraway, fresher on the palate; tasty.

Beautiful wines very true to their Trentino varietals.

  • 2013 Foradori Manzoni Bianco Fontanasanta

    Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    7 day skin contact; pale color; floral, honey, grain, light and elegant; beer like on the palate a bit, Belgian yeast, apple and pear, nice texture; tasty.

  • 2013 Foradori Nosiola Fontanasanta Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    Done in amphora; sweet honey, floral, elegant, less grain than the Manzoni Bianco; light body; thrilling and tasty.

    Bright maroon; bright red and dark fruit, wild berry, tart; nice cut and freshness, good depth and structure; good.

  • 2013 Foradori Teroldego Sgarzon Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

    Neon magenta; a bit more subtle nose than the Foradori; bright, tart, medicinal on the palate; very nice, reminds me of a Gevrey Chambertin barrel sample.

    Opaque with maroon rim; dark fruit, wild berry, mineral, leather, beefy; sappy fruit, rich, tannic, like the rush of sweet ripe fruit, good amount of acid; very good.

Flight 3 - Arianna Occhipinti (4 Notes)

Edgier wines breaking from tradition a bit but managing to pack a lot of soul and character into their unique wines.

Flight 4 - Azienda Agricola Cos (5 Notes)

Didn't speak a lick of English which was fine with me.
Interesting wines. Seemingly more traditional than Occhipinti but they are reverting back to some traditional methods.
Liked the clarity of the wines here. Some of the ones in oak were better than in amphora in my opinion.
