Flight 1 (55 Notes)

  • 2010 Château Bouscaut 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Cherry and graphite. Mineral palate, with decent length to it. Not for those that want Bordeaux with a lot of body or imposing structure.

  • 2010 Château Haut-Bailly 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Meaty, olive, tobacco and licorice. I like the balance between the full fruit weight along with tannic (but fine) structure and good acidity that keeps it lifted. Plenty of potential but a really impressive showing even now.

  • 2010 Château Smith Haut Lafitte 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Chocolate, violets and spice on the nose. The palate shows off its rich fruit profile and for the time being that is the dominant character. Very good length and the structure does seem to be there in the background. Give this one some more time.

  • 2010 Château Cantemerle 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Spice driven nose with some forest floor and a brighter floral note lifting above. Palate feels a little awkward though, especially toward the finish where the oak and tannins stick out above the fruit. It's fine to drink but definitely not thrilling or fully balanced tonight.

  • 2010 Château Belgrave 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Olive and oak on the nose. The palate shows more fruit that does well to contain the oak, though it has some rough edges to it. A little tough to love this at the moment.

  • 2010 Château La Lagune 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

Floral and spice, graphite and well balanced cedar on the nose. The fruit quality is high and it stands up to the oak really well on the palate. I really like the length on this wine.

  • 2010 Château Boyd-Cantenac 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Toast and roses on the nose. Nice mouthfeel, plush fruits with plenty of acidity but it does feel as though it lacks some clarity towards the finish. Medium length.

  • 2010 Château Brane-Cantenac 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Raspberry, cherry, smoke and blackcurrant. Bright palate, feels very clean and controlled with a fine tannic backbone. Youthful but shows off its obvious potential.

  • 2010 Château Desmirail 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Stalks and undergrowth with some oak showing through. The palate has biting acidity that isn't covered by the lean fruit profile.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Durfort-Vivens 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Licorice and cherry on the nose. The palate shows a similar dense fruit profile, not a lot of subtlety to this, at least not in its youth. Does provide some pleasure in a superficial way but I don't know what will happen to it in the future.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Giscours 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Really nicely perfumed nose with some ash and spice. Pretty mouthfeel as well, the fruit is elegant but has some plushness to it. Good flow and balance. Has potential.

  • 2010 Château d'Issan 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Cedar, graphite, licorice, and cherry on the nose. The palate is more fruit driven, with rich black fruit and a good core of acidity carrying the wine well. Already seems approachable but will develop over the medium term.

  • 2010 Château Kirwan 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Ripe red fruit nose of cherry, raspberry and jube lollies. Palate shows more restraint though, there is nice acidity and good structure in behind. Still has a rich profile but I like the balance it delivers.

  • 2010 Château Lascombes 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Meaty/bretty aromas, blackcurrant, toast and coffee. The fruit on the palate shows the same savoury/bretty notes as the nose - which for the time being adds complexity, but some bottles may bloom over time.

  • 2010 Château du Tertre 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Really really floral note with roses and violets as well as blueberry. Palate is bright but the lack of depth hurts it overall. At the moment it is pretty but not all that interesting.

  • 2010 Château Rauzan-Gassies 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Mild nose - seems shut down - with earth and blackcurrant. The tannins are quite aggressive and the fruit feels held back. Hard to approach and enjoy at this time.

  • 2010 Château Rauzan-Ségla 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Blackberry, spice, pencil and cassis. I like the style of the palate, it has the right mix of bright acidity and darker fruit weight, with tannins that sneak up and provide good structure. Should develop really well.

  • 2010 Château Calon-Ségur 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Extremely green and vegetable dominant, with extreme undergrowth character. The palate seems less under-ripe, there is some fruit power behind it that doesn't match what I got on the nose. Tried from two bottles with the same result. Has some interesting character but this was a poor showing.

  • 2010 Château Cos d'Estournel 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Blackcurrant, licorice, redcurrant and spice - really nice and lifted nose. Seamless on the palate, excellent balance with full fruit but plenty of class and structure. Really long, a definite highlight of the tasting.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Cos Labory 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Really ripe red fruit on the nose - comes across as sweet. Palate is also very ripe, heading quickly towards being overly sweet without enough structure and doesn't have any nuance to it.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Lafon-Rochet 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Milk chocolate, cedar and blackcurrant aromas. Soft weight to the palate, nicely composed. Good length and balance. Will improve with time.

  • 2010 Château Montrose 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Graphite, stones, pencil and red berries. Really quite structured on the palate at the moment, there is plenty of class lurking but it is really tightly wound up. Needs a whole lot of time from here.

  • 2010 Château Beychevelle 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Really impressed by this wine. Earth, graphite, cherry and a perfumed lift - it is intense but has plenty of appeal and interest. The palate is wonderfully well balanced, there is fine detail among the flavours and plenty of drive behind it into a long finish.

  • 2010 Château Beychevelle 93 Points

Second bottle at the same event. Consistent with the first, just as impressive and delicious.

  • 2010 Château Branaire-Ducru 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Meaty and earthy nose with some floral notes and a mineral element to it. Fresh on the palate, sparking the taste buds into action. Good length with really fine tannin structure. Really liked this wine and its purity.

  • 2010 Château Lagrange (St. Julien) 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Undergrowth and cherry on the nose. Palate is in the leaner style that one might expect from the nose and I don't mind that, but there isn't a lot of character at the moment. Wait and see.

  • 2010 Château Langoa Barton 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Lifted aromas but also weighed down by some bretty band-aid aromas. Palate seems a bit more clean but it isn't exactly full of character, trailing away a touch short.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Léoville Barton 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Graphite, black cherry, blackberry and pencil shavings. Extremely fine tannins set the scene on the palate, with classy fruit that has intensity but also control. Truly excellent wine even now when it is still so young.

  • 2010 Château Léoville Las Cases 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Blackberry, cassis, cedar and some calming spices. The palate has exceptional balance, with rich fruit that delights with its depth and poise. A wine of both power and total composure. Will only improve from here.

  • 2010 Château Léoville Poyferré 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Toast, coffee, spice and meaty aromas. Fruit on the palate is rich and works well with some tannins that feel in proportion to the fruit weight. This is not a wine that I would enjoy approaching now and hopefully the tannins mellow along with the fruit so it can show its potential.

  • 2010 Château Saint-Pierre 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Ripe fruit with plenty of pepper throughout. The palate shows a little too much oak for my enjoyment currently and I feel that the fruit depth is not enough to stand up to the rest of the palate. Drinks okay but not one of my favourites today.

    Musty.

  • 2010 Château Talbot 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Nose on this second bottle is still not especially expressive, though the palate shows more. The fruit is quite sweet but there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of structure to back it. Not all that impressive today.

  • 2010 Château Croizet-Bages 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Spice, herb and earth on the nose. Palate has gritty tannins and finishes a little short - a little more fruit here would really help I think.

  • 2010 Château Lynch-Bages 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Smoke, tea leaves, spice and cherry. Palate is really youthful, with some more smoky, savoury fruit and a rush of acidity and tannin. Give it some time to integrate and I think it'll be rather nice.

  • 2010 Château Pedesclaux 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Perfumed floral nose, with some black fruit and licorice. Fruit on the palate is upfront and quite bold, there is a fair bit of youthful appeal about it. Drink over the next 10 years or so.

  • 2010 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Graphite, blackberry, earth and plum. There is a fair bit of force behind the palate, but there is good flow to it and a really well balanced tannic core. Will improve of course but I was impressed already.

  • 2010 Château Pontet-Canet 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Leafy, blackberry, cedar and spices. Really good structure and a mineral core to the fruit that gives it freshness and lift. Prefer this by an inch to the 2009, just because it has a little more drive and a little more restraint to the fruit. Really long, this has plenty of class and potential.

  • 2010 Château Angélus 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Graphite, kirsch, blackcurrant and plenty of oak that keeps up with the rich fruit profile. The tannins are certainly present but they do not dominate, such is the fruit power and fullness of the wine. Really easy to love this wine, it is great now and will be superb in time.

  • 2010 Château Cheval Blanc 91 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Tobacco, forest floor, blackcurrant and cherry on the nose - it does not burst out of the glass but takes a lot of swirling and a lot of patience with a tiny pour for some of its character to emerge. The structure is good and the fruit has class, but at the moment it just lacks a spark to really shine. I tried a small amount from a second bottle and it was the same. Could just be in a bit of a hole, I would not be in any hurry to approach this wine.

  • 2010 Château Canon 92 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Spice, earth, stalk, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas. Shows nice restraint on the palate - medium fruit weight with good structure that wraps around it. Plenty of promise.

  • 2010 Château Corbin St. Émilion Grand Cru 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

VA funk, smoke, ash and cherry. I like the flavour profile, it is primary but it shows good flow and balance already.

  • 2010 Château La Tour Figeac 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Cherry, chocolate and blueberry. Palate is fruit driven with a fair bit of berry sweetness within its profile. A showy wine at the moment but it should calm down with time.

  • 2010 Château Dassault 88 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Sultana, violet and earth. Palate is slightly more restrained, with the fruit bright but moderated by the oak structure. Medium length.

  • 2010 Château La Dominique 85 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Pungent nose of VA, vegemite yeast and sultana. Palate is better, it show some nice ripe fruit and medium length. Unsure if the nose just needs time to settle or not.

  • 2010 Château Figeac 90 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Tar, smoke and blackcurrant. Tannins are at the fore of the palate, they are very fine but for the moment they define the wine. Give it a good long rest before approaching.

  • 2010 Château Grand Corbin-Despagne 87 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Stalky Cabernet Franc aromas with some spice and black currant. Mouthfeel is quite nice though it is quite simple and forward. Good but not great.

  • 2010 Clos Fourtet 89 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Toast, strawberry, blackberry and spice. The richness follows through into the palate, there is a boldness to it and plenty of red and black fruits mingling together. Good but I wish the ripeness was a little backed off, perhaps that will come with time.

  • 2010 Château Beauregard 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Ash and earth, blackberry and cassis. Palate has a similar profile with the mix of savoury and sweeter flavours along with good acidity. It all works nicely together.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Clinet 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Cherry, cassis and quite floral on the nose. Really good tannin structure with the vibrant fruit flavour lingering nicely. Pure but also nicely detailed.

  • 2010 Château Gazin Pomerol 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Apricot/floral lift, ash and earth. Really bright fruit on the palate, it feels a little uncoordinated but it is still nice to drink and I think it'll come together with time.

  • 2010 Château Nenin 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Light nose with some earth, spice and red berries. Simple palate, it has a little plushness and a decent acid spine. Basic but nice.

  • 2010 Château Petit Village 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Cabernet Franc stalk, earth and spice. Palate has more plushness but it doesn't overdo it. Medium length, though it does drop away a bit in the middle and feel a bit hollow. Overall quite nice.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Clos René 85 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Extremely earthy with some stalks as well. Palate is a bit thin, okay balance overall but there doesn't seem to be much substance here. Tried from a second bottle and it was the same.

Flight 2 (10 Notes)

  • 2010 Château d'Yquem 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Marmalade, peach, honey, some tropical fruits and spice. Beautifully balanced, it is full and rich but never veers towards seeming over the top. Great length and class. A clear step up on the other 2010 Sauternes I've tasted.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Climens 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Pineapple, pear and apple aromas. Really impressive acidity draws out the palate length. Sweetness is present but that acid really tempers it. Flavourful and persistent.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Coutet Barsac 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Spice and mint. A little awkward on the palate, the sweetness sticks out with the acidity there but off to the side. Plenty of the 2010 Sauternes are delicious now, but this needs time.

  • 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Pear, spice, honey and peach. Quite sweet on the palate, the acidity is good but I'd love a little more.

  • 2010 Château Doisy-Védrines 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Light nose of lemon, pear and peach. Palate also in a lighter style, with some brightness to the fruit and good carry. Nice.

  • 2010 Château Filhot 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Earth, orange peel and spice. Palate does show its sweetness, ending up a little on the cloying side. I think it'll come into balance with age but for now it wasn't overly enjoyable.

Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

  • 2010 Château Guiraud 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Apricot and marmalade. Really full and long, this is quite ripe and sweet and while I thought it was fine, others may think it is a bit too luscious without the acidity to counter. Another one that probably would benefit from time.

  • 2010 Château de Myrat 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Mineral, orange and toast. Palate is waxy and honeyed already, shows a good heft of botrytis. Decent drinking, not one for the long term though.

  • 2010 Château Suduiraut 92 Points
