Light and floral. Underripe white peach. Structurally classic Federspiel gruner (m body, m alc 12%, m+ acid) except there’s really no phenolic bitterness. At the same time there’s not much melon or radish/romanesco (maybe they didn’t have much skin contact, resulting in lower aromatics and also lower bitterness?)
This was tough to get, a few people guessed Chablis.
Reductive (burnt rubber). Ripe yellow peach but none of the melon-radish that I’ve really liked on other Knolls. Slight botrytis. Structurally classic Smaragd Gruner (m+ body, m+ alc 13.5%, m+ acid, m phenolic bitterness). Gettable on structure but not my favorite example of Gruner aromatically.
Moderate straw color. Moderate intensity nose with aromatic white flowers, a strong thiolic/grapefruit character, and ripe white peach. Classic structure for Albarino (m body, m alcohol 12.5%, m+ acid bordering on high, m- phenolic bitterness). A really good example.
M- ruby to an orange rim M body, m+ alcohol feels 13.5% (actually 14%), m+ acid, m tannins (rounded with oak treatment) Herbal - an interesting bitter apple oxidation, with green tea and chamomile. A bit of fernet-like herbal tones. A fair amount of oak influence - sweet rounded baking spices. Very nice and well-integrated. Score: 8.5-9
M- Ruby to a red rim M body m+ alcohol (13.5%), m+ acid, m tannins. This is about oak - some dill pickle chips, sweet chocolatey oak rounding distinctly sour red fruit - red plum, red cherry. Very nice. Score: 8.5-9
