Flight 2 - Complicated vintages - 2000 & 2006 (4 Notes)

Flight 3 - 2007 blind + X (3 Notes)

Amazing flight! And Roseneck does not need to hight behind his brothers!

  • 2007 Georg Breuer Rauenthaler Nonnenberg Riesling 95 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. This flight was served blind, only vintage was known.
This bottle was flawed and was replaced by the winery during the tasting. Perfect storage, popped and poured.
Youthful, pale golden color. Deep and dense nose, very floral, citrus fruit.
Vibrant, racy acidity. Very cool and precise. Wonderful depth. Lots of citrus fruit, fantastic mineral core. Great length! Very young. Needs at least 3-5+ years to fully blossom and will gain complexity. Nevertheless, this is already and amazing wine! 94-95

  • 2007 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling 94 Points

On the palate very fresh with a wonderful racy acidity. Great mineral core. Tangerine, zests, bitter orange. Precise, cool, lean and very elegant, wonderful length and still very young. I was so surprised to see, that this is Roseneck. What a great surprise! 94-95

Flight 4 - 2001 & 2008 (4 Notes)

  • 2001 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 94 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. Youthful, pale golden color. Beautiful nose that still needed air, fragrant and a bit sweet/sour.
Rather lean on the palate, but with an amazing pressure and energy! Very dense and elegant, lots of extract, cool. Bitter orange notes and liquid stone. Some sweet and sour notes. Still very young with potential for at least 5+ years. 94-95

  • 2001 Georg Breuer Rauenthaler Nonnenberg Riesling 91 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. Medium golden color. Deep, ripe nose with some oxidative notes.
A bit leaner than the Schlossberg and with less energy. Acidity is a bit unbalanced and it has some oxidative nose. Even though this is not the best bottle I had of this wine, I think it was not flawed, but simply advanced. Nevertheless, still a very good and enjoyable wine. 90-91

  • 2008 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 96 Points

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. Pale golden color. Clean, deep, dense nose with lots of peach, pear, smoke and mineral notes.
Wow! Deep! Dense! Pressure! Everything combined with wonderful yellow stone fruit, bitter oranges, smoke, flint stone, medium+ ripe acidity. Lots of grip and almost never ending! Great wine, that still has potential of further, positive development, even though it is hard to imagine how this bottle could get much better! 96+

  • 2008 Georg Breuer Rauenthaler Nonnenberg Riesling 93 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. Pale golden color. Clean, a bit muted nose, citrus fruit, lychee, but also some hints of apple must.
On the palate it seemed to me very closed and not yet ready. Lean, precise, vibrant energy and a beautiful balance. Liquid stone, great length. This wine will certainly be a killer in 5-10+ years, but this bottle was too young and not yet ready for the big stage! 92-93+++

Flight 5 - 2002 blind + X (3 Notes)

All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. This flight was served blind, only vintage was known.
Deep golden color. Clean, deep nose, some lactic notes, citrus and lime.
Wow! Fantastic depth, pressure and energy! That has to be Schlossberg! Beautiful ripe acidity, smokiness. Wonderful balance. Maybe a bit sweet, but that could also come from lots of extract. Great length! Fantastic wine. 95

  • 2002 Georg Breuer Rüdesheim Orleans 91 Points

On the palate very fresh and elegant. Ripe citrus fruit, nice mineral notes. Maybe a bit less acidity, that makes it a tiny bit “soapy”. Beautiful wine. So surprised to see that this is the Schlossberg Orleans! Fourth vintage of this rare grape variety. 91-92

  • 2002 Georg Breuer Rauenthaler Nonnenberg Riesling 94 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting. This flight was served blind, only vintage was known.
Pale golden color. Clean, dense and very complex nose with a smokiness, that I have noticed so far only in the Schlossberg.
Wow! I could almost copy my Schlossberg notes. Almost comparable, just every component is a tiny bit below the SB. Fresh, dense, deep, precise with an amazing length. Wonderful wine with still a good potential. 94-95

Flight 6 - 1997 - 2004 - a flight to die for (4 Notes)

This was certainly the best dry Riesling flight in my life so far!

  • 1997 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 97 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting.
Pale, youthful golden color! Amazing nose! So deep and dense and complex.
I can simply copy my notes from last year: Dry, medium (+), ripe and well-integrated acidity. It is very dense and deep. Every component is tightly woven into the other. Lots of extract, great texture and grip. Perfectly balanced, great elegance and finesse. Aromas of ripe yellow fruit and granny smith apple, spiciness, herbs and lots of saltiness. Finish is very long, delicate and pure elegance! Gets better and better with air and time. This bottle is certainly at its peak, because I could not believe that it gets any better, but it would stay on this level for at least 5+ years. Great wine, great experience. 97

All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting.
Pale, youthful golden color! Amazing nose! Spicy, young, fresh and complex.
So young! Pressure, tension and a wonderful energy! Very juicy, lots of herbs, floral notes, white stone fruit. Wonderful balance. Very long and precise. This one does not need to hide behind the Schlossberg. It is just a bit softer/rounder. 94-95

  • 2004 Georg Breuer Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling 94 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting.
This bottle was flawed and was replaced by the winery during the tasting. Perfect storage, popped and poured.
Medium golden color. Very fragrant, deep, ripe yellow stone fruit, liquid stones.
Very fresh and young. Amazing depth and pressure. Great length. Unfortunately due to the generously replaced bottle we could not give this wine enough time and air. The 04 Nonnenberg showed us the direction into which the SB can go with air. Nevertheless: 94-95++

    Germany, Rheingau

    Glass: Stölzle White
All wines (except where noted otherwise) where double decanted about 7-10h before tasting.
Medium golden color. Very fine, fragile and fragrant nose, lots of herbs and floral notes, fine yellow fruit. What an amazing perfume!
Awesome! Unbelievable! Amazing! These are my first notes I have written for this wine and that says it all. Pressure like you get a punch in your face from Mike Tyson. Complex palate with lots of herbs, liquid stone and yellow stone fruit. Precision like a Yedi sword. Depth and never-ending length. And still young with upside potential! For me the best Nonnenberg in this amazing tasting. 96-97

On the palate some wild “darkness” and smokiness. Wonderful integrated racy acidity, ripe yellow fruit, very deep and enormous pressure. Amazing length! Schlossberg it is! Hm, no, Rottland! WTF, this wine is amazing and probably even a bit better than the Schlossberg today. 94-95

Medium golden color. Dense, concentrated nose, very similar to wine one in this flight, but also with some floral notes.
On the palate a wonderful mineral core, combined with a racy, ripe and perfectly integrated acidity. Lean and precise, so I opted for Nonnenberg. Gooseberries, some herbs. Wonderful length. Has still potential for further development, so no need to hurry. 94-95

Medium golden color. Clean, deep nose with some lilac.
Very young and fresh. Brutal acidity, stony mineral notes, dense and with a nice length. Lacks a bit the complexity of the great vintages, but still very good. No need to hurry, but I doubt that it will gain complexity. 92-93

  • 1999 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Flawed

    France, Alsace

    Glass: Stölzle White
Bottle tasted double blind. Popped and poured. Deep golden color. Oxidative and musty nose, not perfectly clean. On the palate also very musty. Lacks the typical saltiness and tension I like in this wine. To me not an optimal bottle, hence no rating.

No fruit, completely different from all other white wines we had this night. Lots of fresh roasted popcorn, rubber, flint stone and gun powder. So reductive, but also so interesting and beautiful.
On the palate bone dry, wonderful acidity. Lean and precise. Fine yellow fruit, popcorn. Oak perfectly integrated giving this wine a wonderful texture. Very deep and reductive, needs a lot of air. Wonderful length. Great experience! Thank you Richard! 93-94+
