This Covid thing has changed a lot in many peoples lives, so in my family too.
Canceled some holiday plans during this year. So decided to visit my favorite region for Riesling again.
But not only focused on wine, need some more culture, the roman buildings in the oldest German city of Trier for instance.
Autobahn from Hamburg to Bad Kreuznach,
a visit to Schäfer-Fröhlich and a dinner at the Hermannshöhle, Niederhausen.
Visit to Trier with dinner at restaurant Schlemmereule and visit to von Schubert, Mertesdorf.
Later having a fine Bordeaux at our hotel.
This is special for such a small city, this hotel has a fine restaurant with a big Bordeaux and Italian wine list from the 90ties up to 2009, very fair calculated, so I am having some tries........
Niederhausen and restaurant again.
Frankly I surely wanted to visit Dönnhoff.
As we arrived, the estate was closed and nobody is there.
The estate lost my appointment for this visit, Internet.........
But no cries, will get all of my orders from there,
Had some fine five hours at the restaurant Hermannshöhle talking.......
Started the day with a visit to Bingen, walking at the rhinefront glancing at some sites of the Rheingau zone.
Later visited the estate K.H.Schneider at Bad Sobernheim.
Always like coming home.
Luckily they have filled the three only DMG from Domberg, Felsenberg and Königsfels for me! :)
2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Trocken
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
Since this fu..... Covid-thing everything is in disorder: Life, economy, work, community etc.
AND: no VDP-presentation at our capital city this September!
So decided to take a short glance on some new wine releases at the Nahe primarily!
Always like coming home to my beloved Nahe-valley!
Great start at Bockenau, fresh, tension , lean, great entry level stuff! *(*-?)

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Riesling Vulkangestein trocken
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
Now the dry middle-class,
a blend from grapes of the sites Felsenberg and Kupfergrube,
smoky, like a Winchester 73 fired in an old western film, Flintstone licking at its best, some grapefruit, citrus in the background, light and full of tension, way too young but so delicious chewing on, *(**-?), around 90, 91+ potential

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Riesling Schiefergestein trocken
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
And now the blend from their monopol vineyards Felseneck and Stromberg,
so salty, light but terribly impressive stone licking, this time slate, the blue one, electric tension, and this is "only" the middle class, really great QPR, if you won't effort the price of the GG- bottlings, but this is just a Riesling baby, for the next decade for sure, *(**-****), around 91, 92+ potential

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Schloßböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
From only 0,2 hectares at Schlossböckelheim,
so this is my first 2019 GG try, very subdued still, but on the other hand creamy smoky mouthfeel, the fruit is there, some yellow zesty aromas, but clearly from volcanic soil, wait at least 3-5 years for an real first opening, *(***-?), around 93+

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
WOW, unbelievable on the nose and palate,
as I always try and buy this site from different producers and every vintage this vintage it is like coming home,
the real volcanic sophistication, tight, but on the other hand dancing on the palate, electric acidic tension, smoky, finesse like flow, extremely lingering finish, maybe the best vintage from this site from S-F ever, highly recommended, but I do have bad news for all of you,
Schäfer-Fröhlich is sold out this vintage completely, so run and ask your dealer! *(***-*****), 94, 95+ potential

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
As nearly always more open,
floral hints, herbal, spice, very good mouthfeel, long aftertaste,
maybe I am a little unfair, mature I do like this site, but young I need this tension from volcanic or slate soils, **(**), around 91+

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
The alpha male producer of this vineyard is E-S, only 0,3 hectares from here,
but again, this slate aroma, clean, ultradry, tight and mouthwatering, full of tension, wait for half a decade at least, *(***-****), around 94+ potential

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Stromberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
This is from their MONOPOL at Bockenau,
when I first visited S-F I really wondered about their Bockenau sites, "far" away from the Nahe river, but it is always the floor stupid!
Slate driven, the pure stone licking, tension like a row of A380 starting at Dubai air port, clarity and purity in my glass, and this lingering dancing finish on my palate, sooooo far away from Riesling hoi polloi!
There is only one terrible nuisance: why for heavens sake did I start buying this great Riesling only some vintages ago? *(****), for one, two decades for sure, 96(+) potential

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
REFERENCE bottling! MONOPOL again!
I do have to explain a little, this means only in my opinion and for dry GG-Riesling, there are great Rieslings from the classic style from the Mosel, Saar, Ruwer, but dry or lets say mouthwatering ultradry it is Nahe-Riesling for me,
luckily there is enough Riesling from this site to get a DMG filled again! :)
not easy to decide if this is another small step up the ladder in purity and clarity, would say yes, but a very small one, and only to decide if you have both of them side by side on the table, this is one to go gaga over, beautifully focused slate impression, very tight and deep, but light and mouthwatering flow over the palate, razor blade sharp acidic right now this young, will be a real Riesling beauty reference in about a decade, *(****), 97-99?

2015 Gut Hermannsberg Traiser Bastei Riesling Großes Gewächs 92 Points
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
A little exhausted and tired after running the Autobahn six hours and this tremendous wine-tasting at Bockenau we entered our favorite restaurant at Niederhausen, Tata...... called Hermannshöhle, right at the river Nahe and the vineyard Hermannshöhle above us.
South-west German plum pudding and fresh roast venison we paired with this one,
kerosene nose, creamy flow, strong herbal notes, very deep and for a Riesling full-bodied, delicious yellow fruit, apricot and peach, very good weight, long aftertaste, from now on with a decent decant, **(**)

2019 Schäfer-Fröhlich Weißer Burgunder 'R' trocken
Germany, Nahe
(8/27/2020)
Just a new view on another grape,
just filled these days, fermented in used barrels,
very tight and deep, some yellow fruit, floral hints, creamy flow on the mid palate, full of tension, will be a very good companion for food in some years, *(***), around 92(+)
