Flight 1 - Starter Champagnes (3 Notes)

Flight 2 - Main Event (10 Notes)

  • 2006 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

93+ Ruby see through; sexy nose, sweet dark cherry, shows greatness, young and undeveloped with lots of stuffing behind a curtain of sex appeal, high acids, some texture and firmness, slight medicinal, powerful, iron?, aromatic pleasure but needs time for the palate to open up; '14 Perrot Minot Mazy? In retrospect still so young and probably a great success for '06.

  • 1982 Château Gruaud Larose 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Garnet core with large brick rim; nose shows tanned leather, spice box, cedar, eaux de Bordeaux, old and resolved, stank, red currant, funk, savory, not a huge mouthfeel, delicious, amazing nose, palate a shade behind, some green, char, plump in the middle and in a great spot; Pauillac? '90 Lalande? In retrospect the brett was very much in check and did not lead me to a Cordier property of this era.

  • 1995 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Darker core with maroon rim; more darkness to the nose here, black cherry, wet earth, so new and tough coming after the '82 Gruaud, cedar, red currant, more 1-D, powerful and great core and mid palate, boxwood, red currant, almost blue fruit, ashy, fatter and richer on the midpalate, more Merlot on this, good nobility and so much younger than previous wine; '01 Palmer?

  • 2011 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Darker see through ruby; pretty nose, reductive, pencil eraser, candied rose and cherry, smoke, sexy and high toned, lots of new oak, sexy but in a spot where it is trying too hard- still needs time to shed some youth and fully come together, sweet gobs of fruit, lacking some defining character, more hedonistic than cerebral at this stage; 2010 Grivot Echezeaux?

  • 2001 Château Lafite Rothschild 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

93+ Dark core with thinner chocolate maroon rim; dark fruit, incense, black fruit, black cherry, cedar, more angular, stank, pencil lead, liquor soaked cherry, youthful and in a dumb phase; '00 Las Cases?

  • 1996 Château Margaux 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

94+ Dark core with brick rim; more open nose than the last, boxwood, red currant, a bit youthful and 1-D, cedar, good core of fruit, tightly wound acids, barely into secondary character, red fruit, very long and nice wine; '01 Lafite?

  • 1998 Château Latour Grand Vin 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Dark core with maroon rim; weird nose, doesn't smell like wine, everything bagel with cream cheese, a touch of mesquite, fennel, caraway, cinnamon, aged balsamic, very savory, mahogany, tart cherry finish, aged Italian; oh no is this my '98 Giacosa Red Label- can't be, going with '04 Voerzio Rocche dell'Annunziata. In retrospect this was a pretty horrid example of Latour and I'm positive it was damaged by heat somewhere or a poor fake. I'm disappointed to have given it a 91.

  • 2007 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru

See through dull maroon, pale rim; weird nose, medicinal, raspberry, some soy, wilted roses, incense, fig, almost CdP Grenache on the nose; palate shows sexiness, elegant, great acid, I like drinking this more than smelling it, like drinking it (right now) more than the other Burgs tonight, savory finish; slightly advanced, very tasty but lacks completeness from the nose; '06 Bonnes Mares?

  • 1989 Château Margaux 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

95+ Dark core with brick rim; great nose, stank, green and red currants, boxwood, structured, good year, broad shouldered, very good, open nose but still needs a touch more time to come alive a bit, still some dryness on the finish that detracts slightly from overall drinking pleasure; '96 Cos?

  • 1998 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano 95 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

See through crimson with orange in the rim; mahogany, touch of soy, sexy nose, tar and roses, beautiful, refined, special, some caraway, nice texture, well rendered tannin with a later grip, sexy and very tasty but hard to compete with the thoroughbreds tonight; this one has to be my Giacosa.

Flight 3 - Dessert (2 Notes)

Closing

WOTN- '82 Gruaud Larose
#2- '96 Margaux
#3- '98 Giacosa

Interesting themes today:
2x mini verticals of Chateau Margaux and Clos des Tart
Only 1 non-French wine and it took the bronze
My guessing was calling a lot of producers we had just not on the same wine as them.
