Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Typical SF nose, that vanishes with air. Otherwise quite smoky and mineral. On the palate dry, very mineral, dense and deep. Great pressure and tension and very long. Liquid stones at its best. Still young, potential for at least 5+ years. 94+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Very floral and fruity nose, very harmonious and deep. On the palate not the immense pressure of the Felseneck, but a very beautiful balance and harmony. Equally mineral. Juicy and very young. 93+

Bottle was double decanted about 7h before the tasting. Pale yellow color. Muted nose, dense, dark and with some petrol. This wine is completely closed and shows only a glimpse of its future glory. Bone dry, salty mineral notes, wonderful extract and depth. Lean and elegant. Long, very fine and almost shy finish. Re-tasted after about 2h’s and it opened up a bit more and gained complexity. Will be an awesome wine in a decade. Now 92+++

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Pale golden color. Nose way more open than the CSH, lots of ripe fruit and herbs.
On the palate ready for the show: Lovely pure ripe fruit, salty mineral core, good balance and length. Drink now, but absolutely no need to hurry, will last another decade, but I doubt it will improve. 92-93

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Pale golden color. Nose with some herbs and some weird medicinal notes, but no flaw of the wine itself. On the palate the classic “dark” and smoky Halenberg notes, fruity, again some medicinal notes. Harmonious and long. 91-92

From Magnum. Pale golden color. SF Sponti nose, not that appealing. But on the palate it really rocked. Classic dark Halenberg mineral core, salty, beautiful tension and pressure, very long finish. Still upside potential. 94 Palate - 2 Pt Nose = 92+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Medium+ intense nose with some sweet fruit and some lactic notes. On the palate dry, good mineral core. A bit unbalanced acidity, making this wine a bit sweet/sour. Still very young. Good length and potential. 92-93+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful airy, herbaceous and stony nose. On the palate quite elegant and very well balanced. Beautiful tension and pressure, lots of ripe sweet fruit and a wonderful mineral core. Juicy and very long. Re-tasted after 2h and it got even more complex. Still a bit too young. Give it 2-3+ years. 93-94+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Fantastic nose! Smoky, reductive, very deep, dense and complex. Wow!
Another proof, that power and complexity does not need much alcohol. Only 11,5% abv! This is all about perfect balance and harmony! Power without weight. Beautiful elegant, juicy, salty mineral, smoky and with a beautiful pressure. Very long and complex finish. Probably not at its full peak. 96+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Beautiful complex fruity/herbaceous nose. Not as deep and complex as the Schlossberg, but almost as beautiful.
On the palate wonderful combination of fruit, herbs and floral components. Very mineral, deep and complex. Certainly with power, but never fat or broad. Great tension and pressure! Very long and lingering finish. Still some upscale potential. 94+

From Magnum. Clear, medium golden color. Dense and deep nose, some smoky notes, some rock flour. On the palate with more power and more of everything than the Ölberg. Also very mineral. Not as elegant and fine, bit with more pressure and tension. Long. Potential for another decade. 93-94

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, deep golden color. A bit oxidized nose, a bit old and tired.
On the palate apple must, jodine, very mineral. Like an old Champagne without bubbles. Bottle was not flawed, but just past peak. 87-88

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, medium golden color. Very lean and meagre notes. On the palate very juicy and mineral, but also lean and meagre. Good balance, salty finish. Knowing this wine for years I would say it just way too young and needs another decade to fully shine. I will not touch my remaining bottles for 5+ years. 90-91++

Clear, pale golden color. Stony, mineral nose. On the palate a surprisingly beautiful Kirchspiel that is mainly focused on its structure and mineral core. Deep, nice tension and very long. Drink now – 5 years. 92-93

Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Beautiful complex, smoky nose, dense and deep.
On the palate Morstein at its best. Smoky, dark mineral core, deep and dense. Great pressure and tension. Wonderful power, but very elegantly wrapped. Long finish. Bright and shiny future ahead. 94+

Perfect bottle, bought at release. Double decanted about 8h before. Clear, pale golden color. Very muted nose, not showing much.
On the palate a beautiful wine, but compared to the Wittmann he completely lost in every way. Lacks the tension and energy I usually admire in this wine. Probably this wine needs a decade to develop. It certainly has all the components. But today it was simply a disappointment on a very high level. 92 (++)

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Interesting green notes and stems, fresh and lean.
On the palate it is all about extract and structure, not about fruit. Very mineral, deep and dense. Lean body. Very good balance and tension. Way too young. Give it another decade. 93-94+

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Herbaceous nose, some fresh Curry herbs. On the palate quite nice, but lacks the extract, definition and precision of the Bürklin-Wolf. Warm ripe fruit, again some Curry herbs, good length. Will certainly last for a few more years, but will most probably not improve. 91-92

Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Classic Wachau nose, lots of acacia, crushed stones and ripe stone fruit.
This wine clearly polarizes. You either love the style or you hate it. I love it. Full bodied, but the power is beautifully wrapped and the wine is elegant and in a very good balance. Clear fruit, clear botrytis. Acacia and honey. Wonderful pressure and tension. Long and lingering finish. No need to hurry, will stay on this level for a decade and will probably improve. 94-95+

Clear, pale golden color. Classic Wachau nose, lots of acacia, crushed stones, fresh.
Yes it is fat and bold. But also with great pressure, depth and density. Lots of acacia and honey notes, wonderful mineral core. Wonderful extract. Good balance and length, but not “endless”.
92-93

Clear, medium golden color. There is a huge discussion if FX Pichler had some wine making problems in 2011/2012. This Kellerberg had clear notes of band aid on nose and palate. Other than that it is a very good mineral Wachau Riesling with a beautiful tension and very good balance. Is it flawed? Depends on the view point. I will rate it 91-92

Tasted double blind. Clear, deep ruby color. Beautiful left bank BDX nose, cool, spicy and herbaceous. On the palate a beautiful tension, fine, high tannin, lots of fine red fruit, silky texture. Dense and long. Very nice. 92-93

No notes taken. Beautiful German Spätburgunder, still in its teenage years. Drinks beautiful right now but has upscale potential 91++
