On the nose, there were subtle ripe, yellow stone and citrus fruits; but mainly the wine was very smoky and stony.
In the mouth, there was a nice melting texture; very powerful. Here, too, the fruit was rather restrained. Instead, the wine was on the chalky, very mineral side; it seemed almost dark-smoky to me. At the end there was a beautiful phenolic flavour with a pleasantly integrated, medium acidity. The wine was very complex with a very long finish.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 - Part II (Concept Riesling, Düsseldorf): Glass: Gabriel Standard Tasted blind. Clear, medium golden color. Smoky and more complex nose than Keller. On the palate more precision and tension as Keller’s counterpart. Same warm and sweet fruit, beautiful ,mineral core, long and lingering finish. 93+

Clear golden color with streaks of green at the core. Fascinating. Intense and mature nose of ripe peach, pears, almost towards pineapple, but with an underlying tone of petroleum and newly baked bread (!). Full bodied attack, coats the mouth with sweet peach and pear, but the acidity kicks in very quick, lifting the taste into something much fresher than the nose promised: lemon, lime and a chalky, dusty tone emerge at the end of the tasting curve and virtually explodes in a long, fresh and vibrant finish. What seemed a bit heavy is transformed into a fresh, young thing. Amazing, and a good example of how well these Riesling age, and how they combine power with finesse (at least in the mouth and aftertaste). At it's peak right now, but will keep for many years to come.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2012 (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Universal
Clear, pale golden color. Stony, mineral nose. On the palate a surprisingly beautiful Kirchspiel that is mainly focused on its structure and mineral core. Deep, nice tension and very long. Drink now – 5 years. 92-93
