While I'll continue to enjoy a few whites, we had a nice Barbera last night. Really hit the spot on a cooler evening.

Feels like November or maybe even December right now. Very cool and gray in Chicago. Monday is expected 40's and sunny....oh well. A good day to clean the house.

Really enjoying an Argentinian Torrontes (white wine) right now. Snow is due to fall in an hour or so.

I put on the heat in the house this morning for the first time this season. Looks like it is needed all this week.
Historically, I like to wait until Oct. 15th to do this so we're right on schedule.

We're at 40 this morning. Overnight. Boom. Just like that. I don't know any part of the country that had a true Fall this year.

50 degrees and sunny in Chicago....in January is very very wrong. Was pruning my apple trees without a hat today. Good day to catch up on outdoor work, but it felt odd with the sun bright and low on the horizon.

It happened in da Ville but it was shorter than normal. Right now its 41 and we expect a high today of 63...

Normal temps forecast for the upcoming week. Lows in the 50s, highs in the low 70s. Can I order that year round?

Pushing upper 40's in Yakima today. That is not a good thing for this time of year. I haven't seen any yet, but buds on apple trees in January is a recipe for disaster to a crop that usually buds in March/April. See also cherries, pears, hops, wines grapes. We need a real winter to happen for a variety of reasons, but the non-existence of winter is a problem for farmers here.

Heck, we had that here in central KY!!!

That's why Vinis vinifera doesn't work here. 65 degrees in January, 15 degrees in February. Plants leaf out early, get frosted, bark splits, vines get oozing, infected wounds.

Norton is the only grape to grow here...

Cold front blowing into the Midwest, but still very moderate in the expected future. No snow anywhere to be seen is very odd this time of year, but it is a nice change to actually have clean vehicles in my garage that are not covered in salt.

Major snow action in KC this past weekend, starting Friday.

The forecast was for 2-4 inches. Surprise! We received 9-inches in our area.

No loss in power here at Mom's during the event. Good deal, as just one block north, there was an outage that stretched over a mile up.

Across State Line Road is Leawood, KS. They had no power. Our nextdoor neighbor's Mom is at an assisted living center over there & not having electricity is not good. I cannot fathom why they had no backup generator. I went along to help her get her Mom & bring her back here. I even had to shovel the front walk outside the facility front door, as no one had kept up with that. We got her back home. A good thing as power still wasn't back up on Sunday. They had to evacuate the residents to another facility. Power did not come back up until Monday morning.

Our house in Brookside did not loose power. Bonus: our next door neighbor has a snow blower & he cleared our driveway & sidewalk.

Across the street, the entire area to the north had no power until yesterday at 5:30 p.m. As of this morning, there are still 22,000 homes without power.

And we are likely to get hit this coming Friday with another winter blast, just in time for the Chiefs game.

Sure hope the Chiefs are victorious. One can hope.

Several chilly/rainy evenings here although nothing compared to KC nor Chicago. Definitely red wine time. The vino becomes a comfort food, literally.

A cheap Cab Sauv, OK but not great, is open and waiting.

Chilly Cheers!

Plenty of snow and such here as well. We had power thanks to underground lines to the building, but most of the neighborhood did not. 8"+ of heavy wet snow and trees don't mix well. Good time as we plan to go to Tamp this weekend coming up to avoid the single digits (F).

Should be interesting, as the temperature is going to be around 6°F (-14.4°C) during the game.

Now they do say wind should not be a factor, but jeez…

"A temperature in the single digits at kickoff would make this the coldest playoff game in the history of Arrowhead Stadium. It could also challenge the record for coldest football game in the stadium's history."

Cold temps and more snow also forecast for the Chicago area, but the heaviest snow likely will be south of us. Seems like a good weekend to open something hearty like a red from southern France or Washington.
