I got a reds shipment from Greenwood Ridge (which I'm going to have to leave alone as I'm sure they're too young). We went to a tasting and came home with two bottles from Cousino-Macul(Chile).  We chose a merlot and the antiguas reservas.  It is a stretch for me to buy out of California, but I loved these two bottle.  I was enjoying them with a great wild boar sausage, so it's hard to go wrong!

I was given the Rosenblum Black Muscat for Christmas and it by far beats the Late Harvest Tobins.  I am a huge Tobin James fan, and their Late Harvests are not their strong point.  Another great ruby port type wine is the Rodney Strong Gentleman's port.

If you are now a James Gang member, they also have rooms at the winery that you can stay in.  There are also a few things that are not available to all.  You need to check out their Blue Moon wines.  They are the best.  Their tasting room is a lot of fun, and I have not met a snob there yet.

It's been a while since I've been shopping (or posting) but picked up 4 bottles from Farr's imperfect sale.
1986 Cheval Blanc (for about GBP100)
1989 Solaia (for about GBP80)
2x 1986 Sassicaia (for about GBP60)

All seemed a steel and will be drinking them over Chinese New Year with friends who split the cost.  Did the same thing with 3 vintages of 80's Margaux a couple of years back - fantastic.

Then I bought 4 bottles of 2005 Chateau Beaucastel having had my first experience of actually drinking the wine over Christmas (85 and 88) for GBP40 delivered.

Then picked up some Hartenberg Chardonnay and Battle of Bosworth in HK - both really good value and hopefully will see me through Chinese New Year (+ a few others!)

No Tsingtao and Great Wall for you I see.

I think I've only drunk white GW, but seems like there's a red:

Colonel,
Some of the China wine is the same price as a good Aussie (wine) or even a 5th growth.  Crazy for what in a lot of cases is bulk Chilean.  Have tried a couple but try to end up back on the Tsingtao which is a decent drink.
Was looking through Farr's latest list this week - didn't realise a lot of it was yours.  Thought you'd have 'adevrtised on here, although you might have as I haven't been checking.

Just 20 cases of mine - please buy it ;)
Was being cautious about making Eric's site too commercial, also it's a  lot simpler selling  this way.
But actually would be very happy to exchange/sell/buy wines from CT Good Fellas.

Not wine, but stemware this time.  Puchases my first Riedel glassware this week.  Although it wasn't the top end stuff (it was the Vinum series), I'm anxious to try it out this weekend.  Picked up 6 vintage port glasses and I'm hoping for good things.  I was intrigued to learn that they (Riedel) recommend cleaning your glasses with warm water, no soap.  Guess that is something else I've been doing...........wrong???

You'll love the Reidel's.
I predict you'll buy yourself a single handblown monster (can't remember the official title) glass and love it.
I bought two (didn't want a divorce) and haven't looked back.
Can make even an ordinary wine seem to be better and bigger that it really is.
Just breath heavily before you drink.
Cheers,
L.

Wonderful.  I am going to test them over some vintage port this evening most likely.

Just picked these up this morning:

2006 Mollydooker Shiraz Carnival of Love (Quite excited about this)
N.V. Sokol Blosser Evolution No. 9 (LOVE the stuff, especially the No. 11)
2000 Fonseca Porto Late Bottled Vintage (Against my better judgement, but my only experience with this was at a restaurant after a long meal.  Maybe it was a bad bottle?!?)

Dear Colleagues,

You have got to be buying the inexpensive (some would say cheap -- whatever) 2005 Bordeauxs. They are the real deal, and for $10-15 each, you can use them as mouthwash or creme rinse -- I won't be, but that is your call.

Nothing fancy, but nothing bad.

John

Colonel - I had an opportunity to drink from the Riedel port glasses on Saturday evening, drinking a NV Yalumba Muscat Museum Release and the wine was fabulous (as were the glasses).  Some day (many moons from now) I shall switch exclusively to Riedel stemware.  Looks like I know what to fill my lists with - birthday list, Christmas list, Anniversary, the-sun-came-up-today list, etc, etc...

Looks like you made a good choice:
"Quintessential Pomerol. Perfumed, earthy, elastic, energetic, textured.  Abundant fruit, roasted herbs, deep spice, bursting with ripeness and depth. One of the very top of this appellation with all the makings of a wine for the very long haul."

I've been getting together with a few friends recently for wine tasting.  Last time, my wine didn't stack up to the competition so I would like to "wow" them this time.  I hope this does it.  I got my hands on a:

2001 Sine Qua Non Albino
2001 Peter Michael Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge
2001 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill

Never come across the expression "cellar defender" before.
Guess it means reasonably priced?

I use cellar defender to describe wines of reasonable price with acceptable quality.  Also, they tend to be approachable early in life while I wait for the others to age.

Puyguerard happens to fit the bill for me.  The 2000s are drinking great right now (I paid around $11 for them).  That way I can drink a good Bordeaux without breaking into my others too early.

Liked the Riedel Vinum Port glasses so much that I picked up a 6 pack of Riedel Vinum Gewurztraminer glasses this week too.

Also picked up a few bottles of 2002 Penfolds Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28

You've got to invest in at least one massive handblown glass - I've obviously choosen the Bordeaux style, but the key is BIG!
They extract every drop of bouquet from the wine.
Ask to have your Birthday and Christmas together this year.
L.

PS  Sadly found a chip in the rim of one of mine - can't bring myself to throw it away, but equally don't want to have to drink my Mouton Rothschild from only one side.

A chance to confess at last - Riedel stemware can be as slippery a slope as the wine itself.  In my early wine days I was bought 6 Vinuum Bordeaux and 6 Vinuum Chardonnay which started a second cellection.  Think I'm now at over 60 glasses!  I have
Sommelier Pinot (1) Bordeaux (4) Champagne (6) - beautiful objects
    Vinnum Bordeaux, Chardonnay, Riesling, Champagne
    O - Pinot and Syrah
And even 2 malt whisky glasses (a little under whelming - malt whiskies are incredibly varied so the delivery to the tip of the tongue might not be right for all...?)
As you can see it became a habit which space has now thankfully slowed.  Lots in boxes on the fridge, I occassionally get to use 20 to 30 if I'm cooking for friends but they're such lovely things I could just keep buying.

    Confession over.

I saw the note on the Riedel...check your local Target.  They are blowing out the Vivant decanters right now for $4.98.  We've picked up 6 of them so far, and will pick up more if we can find them.  So far, we've cleaned out 2 of the local stores.  Also picked up a decanter and 2 glass set for $9.98.  What a steal for Riedel goodies!

More mailers on the way as well.  Getting ready to place a Kistler order, and Martinelli is on the way.  God I hope the mailer madness stops.  My credit card is melting in my wallet as I type.

Two words for ya:  I'm broke!

HA HA!  No, we haven't moved Valentine's Day, but as much as we are in the cellar, it's hard to hide thing....and we don't like to leave wine in the car for a few weeks to hide it....we'd rather just give it to each other early!

I'm not a Giants fan, but actually a Bears fan.  However, living in New Jersey, and seeing how the Giants actually play in New Jersey, of course I was routing for the underdog Giants.  Best Superbowl I can remember compared to the blowouts in years past.
