FFP was a 2015 Sanford SRH Pinot Noir. We were at a charity tasting and that was the first open table we reached, so a random FFP.
Among the highlights of the evening:
Voillot Volnay
Nickel & Nickel CC Ranch Cab
St. Supery Dollarhide Cab
Quintessa Red Blend
Far Niente Cab
Veuve Fornay Notre Dame 2007

Qunitessa was the WOTN. Finished with a glass of 1983 Grahams Port and then a taste of Hennessy XO.

I’ve got a glass of 2005 Haut Bergey leftover from last night sitting in the bottle in the fridge; that will be FFP for me.

Felt like a Pyrat Rum and Fevertree tonight. Dr. M is enjoying a second pour from a 2013 Vincent Girardin Pouilly-Fuissé.

A big beer and then 2 big Tanqueray and Tonics. A Logan's Steakhouse - kind of middle-of-the-road place or even lower tier, but damn - one of the best bone-in ribeyes I've ever had.

I was about to say I'd hate to be hit over the head with that, but maybe I would love it instead.

2005 E. Pira & Figli (Chiara Boschis) Barolo Via Nuova

Last bottle of this I had out of the cellar was almost 5 years to the day. My note from then said to not open another for at least 5 years. In the decanter now for several hours. Initial taste after opening leads me to think my note today will be to not open another bottle for 5 more years

Lea by Tensley PN, Santa Rita Hills, 2012. We have been enjoying for a few days. Plenty is left for tonight.
$24, drinks like $15 - $20. But enjoyable. Comfort food for chilly evenings.

Cheers!

2008 L’Arrosee. Tasty!

I bought L'Arrosse every year between 1986 and 1990 and it mostly always never lived up to its potential. Maybe it got better with time? No idea. Last year I purchased was 1990. It was never great. Always average.

In the old days, as I recall, L’Arrosee was one of the lightest wines on the right bank, almost Burgundian in style. At some point they decided to follow their neighbors in St. Emilion and produce a darker, richer wine. Of course some could argue whether that was good or not; 2008 is the only vintage I now have in my cellar, so I don’t really have an informed opinion. But I like the 2008 L’Arrosee, as I have enjoyed many 2008 Bordeaux. There is a refreshing quality to wines of the vintage, and L’Arrosee provides a nice moderate level of complexity with a clean and lingering finish. It’s not the best wine in my cellar, but it made a nice quaff for FFP. Like 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2004, the wines of less heralded vintages that fall before of after the consensus great vintages can be good values and very enjoyable beverages.

FIFY!

My FFP = 2011 Rotie Cellars Southern Blend. No dinner for a little while yet so I guess this is what they call a "Cocktail Wine".
