As we all shelter in place, self quarantine and socially distance ourselves, it seems like a good time to do some "cellar maintenance." Enter the Hallowed Annual CellarTracker Tradition of Last Puppy Night!

Per the description from Khamen in the original event, the following are the rules:

quote:

Simple rule - on Saturday 11th of April, you have to pop a bottle that you only have ONE of in the cellar - whether it's a singleton purchase or a bin end. Whether it's a special bottle or the last of a daily drinker pile is down to you.

Post on this thread what it was and how it was.

Together we can drink our way to a tidier cellar!

Who is in?

K

How you define a "last puppy" is up to you. Don't overthink it! It's just another fun excuse to do what we all love to do anyway: pull some corks and drink some wine!

We've been fairly liberal in allowing the consumption of the Last Puppy to occur anytime during the weekend.

Who's with me?

Here are the prior threads:

I've got several last puppies. Now I only have to remember to drink one on the 11th!

I need not make sure Dr C does not see that. She has been pushing for a puppy lately.

Under current circumstances, I’m hoping that the last puppy is not me.

Bump!

I think I’m going to open my last 2008 Keplinger Kingpin Rows Syrah. This was an “aha” moment wine for me, and I’ve been holding off drinking the last one, as I don’t want it to be the last one. But it’s time.

In.

Need to pair with baked cod with the topping I learned when cooking at a restaurant when I was 18, so either 2007 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Le Haut-Lieu or 2008 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu.

Unless I change my mind tomorrow and pick a white burg or a Liquid Farm.

Hmmm -- we are doing lamb burgers -- and family movie night. Just to be clear, family movie night is a movie for our three year old.... I may crack open one of the old Ravenswood wines I bought and have in house -- most of them are singletons. Or something else......

Surprised at how few singletons I have. Looks like a 2003 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is a good candidate.

For me a combination of sparkling Saturday and last puppy day - the only lambrusco that I've ever really enjoyed - and a pink one at that!

I've got something like 400 singletons. Shouldn't be hard to pick one tonight.

Seems like most of what I have is singletons these days.

La Louviere Blanc, 2013

Crunchy Graves from 100% sauv blanc, citrus and gooseberry with a deceptively semillon-like waxy mid-palate. Actually rather pleasant on a warm afternoon in the garden and about as good as it’s likely to get about now I would think

Drink up!

While this was opened beforehand (I always like to give Sauternes at least 24 hours to improve), it was done so because it was my last puppy:

1990 Chateau Suduiraut

Believe it or not, I'm pairing it with Fritos. Just like peanuts, the saltiness matches nicely. 🎼 Muncha buncha muncha buncha, Fritos go with.....Sauternes. 🎶

I opened the 2007 Huet Sec after thinking more about the pairing. It was wonderful, pear and apple and then that great beam of citrus. I had only a glass as we have to go hide Easter eggs for our grandchildren in a little while. Hiding at their house this year - so much more work! But want to keep that part of the tradition going at least.

The parents get to find a bottle of 2008 champagne.

Good to see you, K!

The 2008 Keplinger Kingpin Rows was slightly past its prime, I think, but still quite nice.

So sorry to have missed this traditional slaying of the lone puppies. Not sure why... in fact I fell asleep last night so early it was ridiculous, or at least it felt that way when around 2pm i was wide awake and watching bad TV. Sounds like suitable orphan curs were rounded up.

Really drinking nicely, but has several years to go. But, per the plan, this was my last bottle.

2012 Cappellano Gabutti Barbera d'Alba: A Bretty mess.
2014 Cappellano Gabutti Barbera d'Alba: Beautiful. Rustic. Savage. But needed a lot of decanter time.
