5/19/2024 - La Cave d'Argent Likes this wine: 90 points

Jordan's 2018 Alexander Valley Cab is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, aged for 13 months in French oak barriques (35% new, 65% once-used). Medium-to-deep garnet in color, it flaunts an aromatic array of cassis, Luxardo cherries, red bramble fruits, allspice, hazelnuts and milk chocolate. Medium-bodied and freshly acidic, it delivers flavors congruent with the aromas. At this stage, the oak and tannins are nicely integrated, as is the alcohol (13.8%). Dense in the middle and medium in length on the back end, this is a well-crafted, easy-drinking red that should reach its fifteenth birthday with grace. Popped, poured and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours, it showed best after 90 minutes. Decantation would be preferable for aeration and sediment extraction. Drink now-2033.

Reaching end of drinkable life. These bottles (4) were purchased from Total Wine, but their storage history is essentially unknown, and the cork in this bottle did not exhibit deep penetration of the color, maybe indicating storage vertically for a substantial period.

Still holding on, has not changed too much over the last 10 years. But was always slightly oxidized but not too bad. Some VA, oxy, slightly dried out, with tootsie roll, prune, leather, med. light body. Blind at Norman's w/group of 10.

This wine has held up nicely. Well balanced and integrated. Starting to lose the boldness of the fruit, so a bit more nuanced. Lovely medium finish.

This taste ridiculously good at this moment in time. Sodt dark fruit notes on the nose. Red fruits as well but but as sweet smelling as well. Nice fruit flavors on the palate with tannins that are pretty much integrated into the wine. The tannins take over slightly but not heavily. Finish last quite long. I’m thoroughly surprise at how well this wine is. I thought it would be very primary being a well know cab from Cali an the price point. Wish I had more of these. I get more red fruits on the palate than dark fruits. I popped an poured this btw. All in all a really great wine for the price. Compared to my last bottle from a few months ago this is the opposite of what i had prior. Last time i decanted the wine this time I opened an enjoyed immediately. Maybe why I’m feeling diff about this bottle vs the last.

Next day a 91. Semi one dimensional like my previous bottle but with some flare. Still has an extra level but not like yesterday. In my opinion drink this on a pop n pour to be at its best. Still drinking well but not as good as the first day.

Pleasantly surprised since I recently tasted the Jordan 2002 which was skunked. This bottle of Jordan 2001 was delicious and smooth. Did not need much oxygen.

Fantastic Alexander valley cab with old world restrained balance of fruit and tannins. Shows some age and complexity now, integrated fruit, some of the wonderful creamy crushed black currant fruit, velvety fine but yet structured tannins underbrush, minerality with good acidity.

This bottle was much better than the first with sour berries, minerals, mild spice, earth and subtle oak. A nice overall experience.

Sourced from multiple vineyards throughout the Russian River AVA, this Chardonnay was fermented in a combination of oak (51%) and stainless steel (49%). The entirety was subsequently aged for 5.5 months in 100% new French oak barriques, with only 14% of the final product allowed to undergo malolactic conversion. Light golden in color, it offers aromas and flavors of ripe citrus, quince, yellow peaches, tropical fruit and honey. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic and without alcoholic heat (13.7%), it stays solid on the mid-palate and concludes with a lengthy, albeit woody finish. This iteration of Jordan's Chardonnay flashes more ripe fruit and oak than other recent vintages. There will be many fans of this style, but for my palate a bit more restraint is preferred. Ordered by the bottle at a restaurant, this was immediately expressive upon opening. Enclosed with a Diam 10 cork. Drink now-2030.

Ordered a glass at a restaurant. I've had quite a few vintages of this wine (1982, 1988, 1999, 2002 and 2008) but nothing recently. I always found this to be a consistently good wine. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. Crimson color. Notes of pencil lead, currants and fig with some spice on the finish. Medium bodied and on the younger side so I would give this some time. 90+ points.

From previous reviews, it sounds like this had a dumb phase about 10 years ago, but well-stored examples drink very well right now.

Dried porcini mushrooms, over ripe raspberries, over ripe red cherries, dried leaves, dirt and mint on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. The palate adds cinnamon, anise, smoked meat, tomato leaf, tarragon and green bell pepper. Super fruity given the age - especially on the finish, which tastes like cherry compote. Medium + intensity of flavors. Overall very much Bordeaux-like, though with a tad more over ripe red fruit.

Medium + body, low acid and the faintest medium - tannin still kicking around.

Day 1: Natural cork. One of those auction purchases to fill out a case. $45 with shipping and tax so not a big loss. This is way better than Caymus, Silver Oak and Austin Hope which so many beginners think are good. Lighter in style with cherry, dust, earth and mild spices. Short to medium finish. This pales in comparison to Alexander Valley Cyrus. Drink now. Rana at 96 is a joke. 85 points
Day 2: I can't get over how boring this wine is. While it is not a sweet Paso Robles Cab it just lacks any personality. Cherry, dust, light floral notes and mild spice. Just not something worth drinking in my opinion and so many better options out there for less. 84 points
Day 3: Going downhill. Lacks fruit and tastes watered down. A most disappointing wine that should really be about $20 a bottle. 80 points
Recommendation: This is an easy pass for me. The wine is nothing like the Anderson's Conn Valley or Alexandar Valley Cyrus wines for about the same price or a few more dollars. Gifting the other 2.
