TN: Dinner at Tiny Lou's: PnP. Small glass. Not much sediment. Very clear, light color. Decent body. Nose was interesting, but the palate was right on point for its age. The fruit had faded a bit, but was well integrated. A very well made wine and enjoyable. Tasted more like Bordeaux than the LMHB.

As they say with old wines, there are no great wines, only great bottles. This one, unfortunately, was neither. Murky with a bit of stewed fruit on the nose, this drank much better than it looked, with a pretty core of cherry fruit, reflecting the small amount of pinot noir that made it into this wine.

I opened a bottle of the '81 Jordan earlier this week, and this is quite the contrast. From what I understand, the '76 was made from (at least some) purchased fruit while the '81 was 100% estate. According to the winery, the harvest occurred in a record 7 days in '76. The fruit here is sweet and at the forefront. In fact, I thought it might have some residual sugar but the spec sheet lists it at only 0.2 g/L. Lots of bright cherry and raspberry flavors, extremely smooth with a long tannin-free finish. Not sure I would have pegged this blind as cabernet, and according to winery notes, there is ~12% merlot in the blend and even 1% pinot noir. Somewhat one-dimensional, but incredibly youthful for a 46-year old wine in a debut vintage. Wow.

Took a chance acquiring this bottle at 44 years of age. Label damage but perfect fill and the cork came out with Ah-so opener perfectly. This was the first vintage of Jordan. Great showing and stunning for the age. Lengthy finish. Fruit holding on. Integrated and smooth tannins. Worth the risk if you like old wine. California history in a bottle.

Bottle and cork in outstanding condition. Fun to taste history - sweet red fruit on the palate, leathery nose. A bit simple.
