Excellent everyday wine, I was even thinking of 88 points.

It has the typical Ansgar-y fragility, but not in a spleeny but in a positive, joyful way; excellent balance between primary fruityness and minerality and seriosity; a wine the tastes geat and is a lot of fun, while not yielding to any mass market bullshit as much as a millimeter. Great calibration of sweetness, it is just enough to amplify the fruit but does not make the wine feel sweet in any way.

Was terrific on its own but should be very good with food as well.

With a price of 10 EUR, this is strong value for money.

Clearly recommended.

Stelvin closure. The nose is crisp, salty and quite reductive. Very restrained with green fruits and some floral notes. On the palate medium-bodied, highly acidic and extremely minerally. Tightly coiled with plenty of green (apple, lime) fruit. One of the driest tasting Kabinett Rieslings I've had in a long time, this is not a hedonistic wine but a solid aperitif and conversation wine.

This is very good! Pale gold colour. A nose of lime juice, crisp yellow apple, chalk, minerals and a whiff of kerosene. On palate, initial fruit sweetness and then quite ripping acidity. Flavours of limes, steel and wet river rocks with honey flecks and a touch of pineapple and some other tropical fruit nuances. Below medium weight with some viscosity. It gives the impression of residual sugar but I don't know how much. Quite long. Drink now or I'm sure it'd cellar for many years.

This is a new maker for me and a happy discovery. The wine has a deep yet fresh green gold colour with a nose of white peach, nectarine, lemon and lime. The palate reflects the nose with the range of fruit characters but shows a distinct slate and autumn herb touch with a deep minerality and drive. This is a delicious yet distinctive Mosel.

A Very Fine Mosel Weekend; 7/3/2020-7/5/2020 (ICE train compartments, Mosel estates, restaurants and Straußwirtschaften): And this is Mosel at its best!
Featherlight, ultra classic, low ABV (8%), but this delicate intensity while swallowing, never stop before emptying the whole bottle......, 92, 93 in a decade or two!

One of the first warm afternoons of this year on the terraces, so choose this very light bottle once again, pnp,
stone fruit, finesse, energy, dancing lightness, tension, a Mosel presenting its very best side!
Long clean and lingering finish, one to endulce with in the sun.....,
will gain more complexity with more years in the cellar, **(**), around 91, 92(+) potential

Very herbaceous on the nose after PnP. The palate is super intense, and shares more similarities with an Auslese in weight and concentration. The acidity is grippy, though, and really comes through in the aftertaste. This needs at least 5 years to come together.

Gault Millau has heaped a lot of praise on Ansgar Clüsserath in the past few years, and this is for good reason in my view.

They have a very clear and distinct kind of winemaking, which is nicely reflected by the art-nouveau style image on their bottles.

Indeed these wines are through and through Jugendstil: fragile, gracious and playful at once.

The wine in question is a good example of this: it's a lean, clean, highly tasty and seducive juice; not too much residual sugar and some excellent acidity nicely balancing each other out.

For some reason I think though that this will not improve much going forward and I'd guess its peak will be in H2 2018 / H1 2019. But that may be wrong, I don't have the longitudinal experince with the Ansgar wines to really tell.

Anyway, this is excellent stuff and highly recommended, especially for the price of 10-ish EUR that it costs at the winery.

Steely straw; classic nose but on the lighter side of intensity, Pellegrino-like minerality, slate and stone with a light punch of nectarine, peach, lime blossom, the nose shows steely and bare of any impediments; the palate is sleek and doesn’t throw off any excess of anything, lean light and dances on the palate but you feel the sinew on the midpalate, these grapes are born of slate and stone and are void of any extra fluff; very nice.
4 Days later this has opened up wonderfully, pineapple, yellow peach, creamy texture, everything that was quiet is now much more amplified, powerful acids keep everything focused and taut; really good, easy to underestimate if tasted only on first day, acids still searing- almost stronger after 4 days of being open, this is special stuff!

Purchased some bottles by auction, due to the fact that my winegroup and me visited this estate in summer,
so this is from a very good vintage, until the ninetieth decade good vintages were not customary in Germany or at the Mosel,
but the vintage 1990 was very successful in all zones of good old Germany,
fine nose, tropical fruit indicated, some spice,
very good mouthfeel right from the start, balanced and finesse like flow, this one is one of the type "Tango on the palate", light with fresh tropical fruit and stone fruit, some spice punch, a whiff of acid giving structure overall, this one is fresh, blind would never, never have guessed this bottle is about the age of 30! Stunning bottle, a delicacy!
and that said: a timeless beauty for the next decade+ for sure!
Two bottles left!

I loved the 2012 and 2013 Steinreich for enourmous elegance, clarity and minerality, but disliked the 2015 which I found empty and trivial.

This I'd say is somewhere in between but clearly closer to the great ones. Obviously very young and should imo stay in the cellar for at least a further year.

The 87 points are today's value, but a NR would be more appropriate at this very early stage, this Streinreich will doubtlessly improve for years to come.

Boy this is good ! This wine opens with a deep yet fresh green gold colour with a nose of white peach, cherries, and fresh citrus with lime predominating. The palate reflects the nose with cherry and lime characters filling the mouth but there is a distinct slate and autumn herb touch with a deep minerality and drive. There is lovely grip and zest to this wine that recalls the Saar.

ABV: 8%, RS: 48.7 gr/l, TA: 7.4 gr/l
Colour: v pale straw, bright, clear.
Nose: full, fresh, v perfumed, floral, light ylang ylang,
Taste: light body, rounded, white nectarine, peach, med finish, good acidity, not v sweet, stone fruits
Overall, pleasant but not challenging. Does not have the character of the GG version.

The scent is a dream; absolutely beautiful. Depth, slight spontinote, minerality, grape - homogenous and immensly elegant.

This scent alone carries more joy than many wines in their totality.

On the day of opening, the taste was a major disappointment: pretty flat, with an acceptable but unexciting attack and disappearing completely in the second half of the mouth.

Next day much better: now a very solid riesling: fairly good balance of fruits, acidity and mirelality. Again not yet what the scent promised, but undisputedly a pleasant and well-made wine.

Fairly priced at 10 EUR.

Taste = 87p, scent = magic, so overall 88p for me.

One of those "hard to not gulp down" Kabinetts from the Mosel. It's got everything you want from lime, lemon, green apples and carnations to this unexplicable Mosel herbal touch that just drags you into the glass. It will be hard for me to wait for development. Sorry it wasn't Forceberry's cup of tea at that stage, but I found this gorgeous. Zalto universal was perfect. On its own or with some spicy Asian starter. Drink or hold, if you can manage.

Ansgar Clüsserath is not in the VDP. That is why his best dry Riesling, i.e. Trittenheimer Apotheke trocken, is not allowed to be named a GG. Qualitywise the wine is an 'Auslese' taking its origin from 80-100 year old grapes and a selected very steep vineyard.

12% alc., yellow color, no bubbles. On the nose a fresh and intensive nose of yellow stone fruit. Very pleasant and harmonious the first impressions. Classic Mosel Riesling but on the very sophisticated side, fine flavors of white and yellow fruits, never too much always aristocratic, animating and fresh, very good drinking flow, good complexity and depth. Keep in mind, that 2017 was a year with generally higher acidity.

A great pleasure to drink, the bottle was quickly emptied. For me Ansgar Clüsserath is in the Top 10 of German Riesling Producer. Still undiscovered.

another of this famous Mosel vineyards, the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen "golden dewdrop" first praised by the roman poet Ausonius in his "Mosella" theme,
this is all about structure, light as a feather on the palate, stunning, showing stonefruit with salty minerals tones, again great to pair with food, **(*-****) and for the next few decades.....
