Vinho; a blind tasting test (@ ToW): Floral and some candy flavors and grasses in the bouquet. On the palate hardly any acidity, soap and thin.

Pleasant nose of stone fruits, beeswax and white florals. Palate mirrors and adds a touch of spiciness and a touch of bitterness. Sometimes bitterness is associated as a negative, but in this case it's quite nice and leans to the varietal characteristics as well as propping up flavors as the glass warms. There's a nice savory salinity on the back end. It's light in body with a round mouthfeel that leads to a nice crisp finish. Nicely balanced. Outstanding QPR and solid quality even from a large cooperative. *90% Garganega, 10% Trebbiano. *Cantina di Monteforte is a Veneto focused cooperative founded in 1952. They boast 1200 hectares of vines across 600 producers. About 37 different wines are offered. *Thought it amusing that the professional pundits were all over the board on this vintage: 88 from Wine Enthusiast, 93 from Decanter and winner of many reputable competitions.

Apricot, lemon curd and stone fruit aromas. The palate has soft, round stone fruits with a lemon lift and minerality on the finish.

Refreshing is emblazoned on the label and refreshing it is. Has a bit of heft to support good strawberry fruit and a decent mineral finish.

Nothing special, but for everyday wine ok. However, for just 4 € nice QPR.

Quite subtle and textural. Definite stone fruit with some acid but not at all harsh. Colour tending towards pale gold. A little floral on the nose (white flower as the label suggests). Not a particularly lingering finish, but quite pleasant and a good price.

Pretty nose of melon and chalky minerals. A bit of citrus and other fruit and correct acid but lacking flavour and interest. Watery.

A Year in the Life of Flying Winemaker with Matt Thomson (Liberty Wines, London): The wine is clear and medium lemon in colour.
The nose is clean with medium (+) intensity aromas of yellow apples, white peach, almond blossom, honeycomb, wax, hint of vanilla. The wine is developing.
The palate is off dry with high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, medium (+) intensity flavours similar to the nose, medium (+) finish.
The wine is very good quality. The fruit is balanced by the acidity, there is some complexity and nice concentration, the finish is perhaps a little short.
The wine can be drunk now but is suitable for further ageing - it has the acid and fruit to allow development of tertiary characteristics.

Il Soave Preview 2013 Aged Soave (Villa Aldegheri, Verona, Italy): The Cantina de Monteforte Soave Classico Superiore 2005 showed very well integrated oak flavours. Compared to the Monte Pressoni it showed more vitality, more fresh seeming fruit flavours, more density, typical resinous characteristics, more roundness and a overall softer texture. Nice!

Developing nose with medium+ intensity aromas of cherries, neutral blue flowers, anise, cedar, vanilla and hints of leather. The wine is dry with a medium acidity. It has medium+ coarse tannins and medium+ warm alcohol. It has a medium+ body and medium intensity flavours of cherries, neutral blue flowers, anise, cedar and hints of leather. Medium+ finish.

It is a very good quality wine showing a very good finish, a decent balance between tannins and alcohol and a nice complexity provided by oak and floral notes. However it could be have more of acidity to achieve a better balance. Can drink now, but it has enough tannic structure and fruit concentration to develop some more complexity over the next 2-3 years.

$10. Think about what you would normally expect from a $10 bottle of red from Italy. This kicks it out of the park. If you find it, buy it. There is flavor, depth, aroma that I would have demanded from a $25 bottle in this gem. Get some of this! Enjoy.
