Amazing! Small glass in Lisbon, tried twice. Nutty/toffee/figs/liquorice. Huge length, smooth tannins. Long finish. Such balance still.

2013 Port Harvest Tour; 9/27/2013-10/6/2013 (Porto, Portugal): 500ml, bottles in 2012. Three years ago when visiting with the winemaker, he told me that they were thinking about doing a Golden White from the 1970's to complement the Golden Whites from 1952 and 1969. I mentioned that I hoped that it was 1971, since that is my birth year and there is very few 1971 Ports available. The winemaker said that if they chose 1971, he would give me two bottles. They were presented to me just before we tasting this wine. Beautiful honey notes on the nose. Beautiful tropical friut notes on the palate with a hint of spirit poking through. Full bodied. There is a sweetness on the mid-palate but the sweetness tails off and the acidity ramps up on the long finish.

Received as a gift. Opened for #tawnytuesday. I was really excited to try this one because I haven't had many white Ports. Beautiful amber color. It's gorgeous. On the nose, initial baked apple gave way to apricot, honey and citrus. On the palate, wow. This is nothing like I expected. It's dry. Like really dry. This is a Port??? Apricot, grapefruit pith and honey. That pith note almost reminds me of a gin and tonic with a twist of lemon. Insane acidity. And the honey note really adds something nice. This is really unique!!!!

Amber tawny in color. Nose is candied fruit, Madeira rancio, florals, nuttiness, turpentine. Palate is medium viscocity, with notes of caramel, figs, developing some of that tertiary nuttiness that comes with older port. A hair too simple on the palate, but decent QPR. 1992 was a fairly mediocre year, but this is solid (though not spectacular) for a 30 year colheita. Paired beautifully with Azerbaijani layered honey cake.

Colour: medium(+) purple
Nose: medium intensity, secondary, youthful. Red and black plum, bramble, blueberry. Cedar, vanilla, charred oak, sweet spice, tobacco.
Palate: dry, medium(+) tannins, medium(+) acidity, high alcohol (14%), full bodied. Medium intensity, medium(+) length finish. Red and black plum, bramble, blueberry. Cedar, vanilla, charred oak, sweet spice, tobacco.
Conclusions: very good -- but seems a bit closed at the moment, so I am basing this on the assumption it'll open up with some more age. Can be drunk now, but likely best suited to further ageing. P&P (not decanted), purchased retail from the winery last year.
Seal: natural cork.
DAY 2: initially I was a bit uncertain about this, as it seemed too closed and austere, but it was hard to tell if it would open up eventually or if it just lacked character. However, the last glass on day 2 is genuinely very good. It is still rather stern and stony, but the fruit character has opened out a bit and it's drinking very nicely. This really does need more age ... or perhaps a long decant.

For about €47 this was a great value Colheita.

Fig, raisin, brown sugar, roasted almond, some caramel/toffee and just a tiny bit of red fruits and orange. Nice balance between acidity, sweetness and oxidation.

Decanted for two hours, fine sediment in the bottle - no cheese cloth needed. Served slightly chilled at 18-19 degrees Celsius.

Initial nose and palate before decanting: Tart raspberries, bitter fruit in general, very restrained. Almost nebbiolo-like. Opened up in the tasting glass after 20 minutes, showed much better on the palate with sweet fruit, some caramel, slightly underripe dates.

After serving: Still fruit-forward, but tartness had disappeared almost completely, now sweeter and more forgiving on the nose. Palate was primary fruit forward, but with lots of figs and vanilla to compliment - very two-dimensional experience.

Aeration is definitely needed with this wine, two hours is not enough. Leave it overnight preferably, it will show better. Great as a Christmas port before dinner to accompany sweets. Not a world-beater in terms of flavor or mouthfeel, but quite nice. Worth the apprx. 20-25 USD/150 kr I paid for it. Drink within 10 years.

Well-made Colheita from the good year of 1995. Matured in this case for 27 years until 2022 when it was bottled.

Bottle chilled to seven degrees Celsius before serving.

Initial nose: Vanilla, caramel, oak, alcohol, burnt figs. A bit sharp at first.

Initial palate: Caramel, figs, leather, dates, brown sugar...oily texture on the tongue. Delicious stuff, but the alcohol is still present at this point. Sharp, crisp after note.

After a bit of warming up and some aeration: Much better. Decant this if possible, enjoy over an hour or two. Enjoyed it to the point where I sought out two more bottles, especially at the quite fair price of $60 (400 DKK).

Purchased for $25. Tasted for #tawnytuesday. Rust color, burnt orange. Cloudy. Initial nose of butterscotch and brown sugar. With some air, notes of dried orange. On the palate, caramel, brown sugar and dried bitter orange. Definitely on the drier side. Really nice acidity. Funny side note, I poured myself a glass of this with some bitoque.... and it was a wonderful pairing!!!! For $25, this is one of the best 10-Year Tawny deals out there. I'm definitely going to be trying their other Ports!!!

20% alcohol. Bottled in 1986, after 34 years of aging.

Dark, brooding and somewhat murky woody-brown appearance. The nose feels old, moderately dull and musty at first with quite a bit of bottle skunk. However, the nose clears up with air revealing nuances of caramel and dried dates, some mahogany, a little bit of Sultana raisin, light fragrant notes of toasted spices, a hint of mushroomy funk, a ouch of dusty old wood and a whiff of campfire smoke. The wine is concentrated, old very oxidative on the palate with a full body and sweet, slightly oxidized flavors of dried dates, some nutty notes of chopped walnuts, a little bit of dusty old wood and mahogany, light nuances of earthy spices, a hint of mushroomy funk and a touch of caramel richness. The moderately high acidity lends good sense of balance, structure and harmony to the wine. The finish is old, savory and slightly sticky with a remarkably long and very complex aftertaste of dried dates and Sultana raisins, some earthy spices, a little bit of mushroomy funk, light oxidative nutty tones, a hint of mahogany and a touch of bruised apple.

A wonderfully complex and fascinating white Port that is starting to feel a bit tired. I'm sure the wine has been bursting with life when it was bottled, but even if the cork was in sound condition when it was extracted, I feel it might've still leaked a bit of oxygen to the bottle at some point, as this wasn't just oxidative, but also starting to show some obvious signs of oxidation as well. This was a superb old Porto in its own right, but nevertheless felt a bit tired and senescent compared to the other three much more recently bottled old white Ports we tasted at the same time.

A blend of Malvasia Fina, Codega, Viosinho, Rabigato and other local varieties. 20% alcohol, 150 g/l residual sugar. Bottled in 2018, after 55 years of aging in old casks.

Beautifully luminous amber color with a faint coppery-reddish core. The nose feels sweet, very complex and immensely attractive with seductive aromas of apple sauce and arrack, some caramel tones, a little bit of nail polish VA, light vanilla tones, a hint of bruised apple and a perfumed touch of floral lift. Lots of things going on here; every sniff from the glass is different from the previous one. The wine is silky but also quite concentrated and rather hot on the palate with a moderately full body and ridiculously intense flavors of maple syrup, some bruised apple tones, a little bit of caramel and arrack, light raisiny nuances of Sultanas and dried dates, a hint of vanilla custard and a touch of Christmas spices. The overall feel is remarkably fresh and tastes noticeably less sweet than the wine is - thanks to both the age and the remarkably fresh high acidity. The concentrated finish is very long, powerful and rather spicy with an intense, moderately sweet aftertaste of caramel and vanilla custard, some raisiny notes of Sultanas and dried dates, a little bit of apple jam, light floral nuances, a hint of cloves and a lifted touch of sweet nail polish VA.

A fantastic, captivating and exceptionally complex Port that would've easily been my WotN almost any time - except for now, when we tasted this wine next to S. Leonardo's Very Old White Porto. Although this was a stunning wine by any and all accounts, S. Leonardo still managed to take a lead and wine by a fine margin. Yet still, there's no denying that this is easily not just one of the best white Port wines I've ever tasted, but also one of the best Port wines I've laid my hands on. At 240,94€ for a half-liter bottle, this is something I wouldn't buy myself, but if I would, I'd felt assured this wine is capable of delivering value for the money. Very highly recommended.
