11/29/2023 - joeyswartz Likes this wine: 90 pointsAn old standby for me, Cincuenta is an excellent value at $20ish. It is a medium bodied rioja with some acid to it and substantial tannins. Definitely let it breathe a couple hours. I had a few bottles of this vintage and 2 out of three opened up with decantering and were brilliant. One just never did open. This wine will stand up to ageing but at 7 years I think it's at an inconsistent place. Probably better around 10. |

The nose is a bit tart smelling with nice red fruit aromas of raspberry, red plum, hints of vanilla, purple licorice and perhaps some menthol. Surprisingly, no tertiary aromas yet. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity and medium tannins. The acid is making my jaw ache. It is medium bodied with flavors of sour cherry, black raspberry, plum, feint vanilla and a bit of menthol. The finish is medium in length and tart. The tannins fade pretty fast on this one, leaving it a bit unbalanced by the acidity and thinning fruit. It runs $15 nowadays and gets 90 points from me with a drink by 2024 window. 4 stars for this Tempranillo that I am pairing with grilled Chicken and plantains. |

3/29/2021 - Glenn Gilbert Likes this wine: 86 pointsIn my second tasting of this wine and vintage (the first was 12/15/2019) there have been some changes for the better -- the first tasting was done at room temperature (23 degrees C), the second about 5 degrees C cooler; the same thin, medium-body was present and my first impression, before I experienced the re-balancing of the components and the finish in the second tasting, is that although I still liked the wine I couldn't give is more than a score in the low to mid 80s (83 was the earlier score -- the two tastings were completely independent); many riojas are full bodied and my penchant is for a full mouthfeel; but clearly the additional 15 months of aging has elevated the layering to a better balance of tannins and sweetness and has given the wine a better finish; the delicate honeysuckle-like sweetness now persists into the medium finish; I would still recommend pairing with fried chicken or fish although hors-d'oeuvres of cheese and nuts would also work; the better layering and finish prompted a new score of 86 |

Nariz de frutas vermelhas (cerejas do mato, framboesas e pitangas). Notas de rosas novas, giz de cera e maraschino complementam um olfato de extensão média e agradável. Em boca tudo se confirma, aromas de frutas vermelhas se apoiam numa acidez viva, taninos muito finos, álcool preciso e corpo médio. Equilíbrio e elegância definem este vinho. Representa muito bem a casta e o terroir da Rioja. Vinho de boa qualidade. |
