"Oh dear, this is special" are words fellow CT'er Tim Heaton used when describing a certain wine (you'll have to read ALL of his notes to find that particular wine ;)

This is what came to mind from the first sniff, sip, the middle of the bottle, and to the very end. For days and weeks before writing this, these thoughts remained. They will never leave because this is one of the very few, very special wines I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. This is my DRC.

What makes it so special? Well for me, it's the wine's elegance, exquisiteness, and pinpoint fine tuned focus. The acidity and balance are dare I say perfect. Such that it might almost become an afterthought, until you realize that it shouldn't. Most wines aren't configured and composed like this.

Since this wine is so very young, I gave it plenty of air prior to drinking. 18 hours with the cork off and a few hours in decanter. With my very best friend, a few other Italian wines, and awesome wood fired pizza (that helped a lot!), it made for a great evening.

Translucent garnet red appearance. Sweet red and wild berries, fresh cut flowers, and some leather on the nose. Bing cherry, strawberry, and red raspberry grace the palate. The tannins are super fine grained and the finish is savory and long-ish. With more time in the bottle, the tannins will meld further and the finish should get longerer-ish ;)

A most beautiful & refined BdM. One of a kind IMHO. I hope everyone gets to enjoy a bottle!

Cheers!

Sour cherry, mint, eucalyptus, liquorice, marzipan. Very expressive wine, really leaps out of the glass. Medium to full bodied, high acid. Beautiful weight with concentration and freshness. Excellent.

We had this with lamb shanks in wine sauce (prepared with Rupert & Rothschild classique 2018). Sour cherry on the nose. Likewise on the palate, med intensity, with lots of juicy acidity. Tannins need more time to resolve. Med+ length. While this is drinking well now, in particular with food, there’s certainly an upside; 94pts in 5 years, 95 in 10?

An awfully pure-fruited and pretty red-toned nose of cherry, leather, tobacco, a hint of licorice and minerally tones. On the palate it is easy-going and lightweight with bright, savory fruit expression and refreshing acidity. Markedly lively and enjoyable and of course extremely food friendly. More on the red side of the spectrum with Chianti-esque qualities. Has a transparent and authentic feel to it. Perhaps some roughness on the edges but it’s not rustic, more geared towards elegance actually with its proportions, lift and fruit quality.

Soave & Brunello (Anima e Cuore): I've had a few of these over the years and it's always hit the spot- gorgeous - very much resolved and ready, but it'll stay at this plateau for a while. Spiced cherry and raspberry, baked earth, rose and crunchy autumn leaves. A subtle hint of bretty animal goodness. It has a louche self-confidence - relaxed about the fact it's a stunner. Cherry on the palate, framed by food-friendly acid and smooth, fine but present tannins, a touch of chew on the finish.

2/2, decent cork. Decanted and immediately served.
Medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is reticent, opens a touch to show light, sour red fruit, touch of nutmeg. Medium bodied, gently spicy, red cherry, firm but fine tannins, savoury on medium length finish. This bottle a bit past its peak.

Perfect integration of ripe fruit and grippy but gentle tannin. hints of bitter chocolate on the palate, cloves & leather on the nose, and a superb foil for the gaminess of roasted porcini mushroom Tagliatelle.

Nose is very mature - with bovrilly, beefy dark fruit, fungal notes. Medium/full bodied, again quite bovrilly with balsamic notes. Unfortunately has gone over the top. NR

Nice easy drinker. I was a little underwhelmed at first - it was nice, well balanced, but lacking a little for the price... but it really came into its own with food. Expressive floral palate with an earthy savoury backing (more dry earth than the burgundian wet earth expression). Nicely made wine

Excellent wine that held up well after 20 years...although I may have done well to drink this 2-3 years ago. Still, nice moderate, but firm tannins, elegant red fruit of cherries and well developed characters of leather, butcher shop meat, herb and tea. Had to finish the bottle several hours after we started...there was no letting this sit for a second night.

Ruby with some bricking on the rim. Red cherry and the oak is still present on the nose and palate- basically, a little dried out. Struggled with this wine over many years of working my way through the 6 bottles I had and, for me, it’s never been quite right for a Brunello di Montalcino. Last bottle and good riddance!

Continues to improve, and I don't think there's a rush to drink these. Still plenty of acidity to give the fruit freshness, nice aging but not a lot of secondary.

A nice Rosso, maybe not quite living up up the above average price? Darket fruit and minerality, a bit salty, balsamic and smooth. Very South of the Montalcino hill.

Slow oxed all day and then into a decanter for an hour before I poured a small taste. Beautiful electric ruby color. The nose jumps out with a blast of cloves, strawberry jam, and dark cherries, baking spices, nutmeg and some charcoal. Great dancing nose that recalling strutting its stuff. Full mouthful of cherries, bitter oranges but the tannins are still prevalent. I hope they recede over the next few hours as this sits.
Just an hour later - The wine had totally morph into a great drink. Not unexpected as this is my experience with decanting after slow oxed. The color has deepened to the point of opacity. The nose is still amazing (maybe the best I’ve experienced in a long long time). But the kicker is the pallet. The tannins have receded and it’s in total balance so that all the fruit and secondary flavors are revealed. The sweetness that has emerged over the top of a full mouthful of fruits. These 2010 are just getting better and better as the start to really strut their stuff. IMHO this vintage keeps amazing me. They are just starting to get into an early drinking window. I think they will drink and evolve for several decades. Tonight this wine is singing. 93-94+.

Christmas 2023; 12/24/2023-12/26/2023 (Home): Magnum. A taste of another magnum a couple of months back suggested this wine was right in the zone, and so it proved: a relatively humble wine that was the best red of the festive period. No trace of anything cooked or pruney despite the torrid vintage, just excellent depth of beautifully ripe fruit, a touch of cedar and some seasoning from the beginnings of tertiary development. The wine was quite reminiscent of a St Emilion, in fact, but the high acidity made it an even better match for the buffet.

Excellent
Drinking well with an hour or so in the decanter. There's more depth here than initially obvious, so I think this is barely entering the window. Tannins are fine but still provide some grip. Great purity and elegance here, dark cherry, red cherry, dusty earth, crushed dried herbs. Such a pleasure to drink.

Glad I held out on drinking the first of several purchased 5+ years ago. Solid $50+ purchase.
