Lemon, chalk, acids. Not much else. The 2008 Pol Roger is either too young or not very good. Too hard for my taste presently at least.

First bottle didn’t impress me in December,21. This time it delivered. Fruity, juicy and very fresh, it just enters its drinking window. Nice nose and great palate. Enjoy now or better wait 2-3 years more.

More red fruited, dense, and structured than, say, Lafarge's version, and I might not have guessed Volnay or even Burgundy. It remains very easy to enjoy now, but I certainly can imagine it lasting for years. Love the 1999 vintage esp. in Volnay!

You can’t reenact the Judgement of Paris without at least one wine from the original tasting. Even though this was the winner in 1976, it fell short in 2024. Coming from the Oak Knoll District AVA in Napa Valley, known as one of the coolest climates in the Valley. Unfortunately, ruined by a heavy hand of French oak. Decanted for 3 hours prior and it still didn’t budge. Ripe, sweet fruit that’s complemented by notes of butterscotch, vanilla and cream. Acidity is high, but it can’t show its full potential under the wood blanket, hence coming off as disjointed. Overpriced.

This has always been a happy wine, and it still is: full of lovely red cherry fruit, just starting to fade a bit, white pepper and garrigue notes. No reason to cellar this for longer, but there is no hurry to drink up either. Lunch with Niels at home, missing CP.

At age 10, this is a bloody good wine that can give a lot of Burgundy grand crus a run for their money. Drink or hold.

Strong nose of blackberry and blue fruits with dry, dusty notes blowing through. Powerful palate of black raspberry, violets, black cherry with notes of cola, potpourri, and spice. A bang of alcohol presents itself on the finish, powering the chewy tannins, rustic black and blue fruits, sun-baked earth, roses and cherry syrup before the oak finale. A big, fun-to-drink wine right now.

Nose of blackberry, boysenberry, blueberry jam, red cherries and a touch of mint. Palate shows tart raspberry, red cherry, kirsch, damp earth, and loads of acidity with some added rose water. A touch of tangerine starts the finish with black plum, cherry, cranberry and rocks as the acidity continues its ride though, ending with light tannins. Fun wine filled with energy - we didn't find it brooding or dark as Vinuous or some other CT notes imply.

I've waited too long for detailed tastes, yet the general impression is quite favourable. There is nice intensity and balance across elements, and I particularly enjoyed the grippy tannins (which others might prefer with more time in bottle). 90+

There’s something magical about Ganevat. Every blind tasting it was ever brought to, it finished with high scores, no matter who was tasting. You could be the richest fine wine collector out there or the natty messiah, Ganevat will bring you peace of mind. From schist and marl soils in Grusse, Jura. Slightly oxidative style with a nose that offers generous fruit to counter. Rare are the moments you get this kind of quality. Great structure, sky-high acidity, incredible expressiveness. A tad young though.

This is a tasty but slightly awkward wine -- it has several unintegrated components, including a pear/melon flavor, a grapey weightiness, a tinge of bitterness, a moderate dose of acidity. For a youngish Chenin, the acidity is quite restrained, which suggests that it is for drinking sooner rather than later, though I might leave my other bottle for a while in the hope that the components become more integrated with age.

This Sancerre had nothing on the Napa gem. Even though it comes from the famous silex soils in the Loire and is from low-yielding 90-year-old vines, it turned out to be rather thin and monotonous. Very subtle on the nose, almost non-existent aromas. Guava, grass, lemon drop, green apple, and lime flavors offer pleasurable but predictable passage along the palate. It’s decent, there’s nothing unbalanced about it, but I don’t know what distinguishes it from the thousands of other good Sauvignon Blancs. And the price. Madon’!

P&P then 2 hours in the glass. develops gradually. requires few hours of decanting.
med aromas intensity of mature delicate red cherries and strawberries, earth and oak-vanilla notes, cigar-box, roses, truffles and acetone hints.
dry, high acidity, firm delicate tannins, 14% abv, med-light body, fine & delicate complexity, medium length finish, tannic aftertaste.
can drink now - suitable for additional 3-6 years of aging.
10 years after a challenging vintage this Barolo is quite enjoyable vs. the expectations.

Well, if you like Margeaux wines, then you will like this one. Delicate structure and texture, but the rest is quite different. Very complicated though.
Classical red cherry and milk chocolate in both smell and taste. Minerals both in smell and taste. Coffee, plum, tobacco - also the same story.
Acidity and tannins - perfect!
Very juicy, addictive, sophisticated, high class wine.
Nice, soft spice, it starts from the beginning to the end.

Why?
Nice, but simple smell. A lot of cedar, oak, leather and not too much fruits.
Taste is much better, but..
... there's dissonance between vibrant acidity, soft tannins and the rest.
A lot of empty space I would say.
Nice long finish with black pepper.
What else is here. Juicy red cherry and blackberry, strawberry. Some coffee, minerals, black tea ( so good).
Intrigued wine no doubt about it.

My American wine friends would like it for sure! A lot of plum, black and red cherry, but the same time minerals and fantastic, very well integrated spice.
Acidity and tannins? Also very well blended.
Shortly - very juicy, very fruity, very spicy. Perfect balance and harmony.
Smell? Very strong, but the same time full of pleasure. Plum, red cherry, minerals, graphite, no herbs (?)

Well I guess this proves the value of wine pairings! For my next bottle it was paired with some slightly salty green olives stuffed with tzatziki and it worked very nicely indeed.

So I guess the lesson is to pair this with rather saline food.

2 months ago I had 2016 vintage - 94 points. This is 10 years older.
90 minutes in the decanter.
First sip and I knew it's a winner! Incredible silky- milky texture! Add to it milk chocolate and you want to drink it all night. But wait. There is more. And "more" is also soft. Acidity, tannins, minerals, plum, black cherry, tobacco. Even spice is soft and mellow. Everything is blended with full harmony and balance.
The smell is also wonderful. Earth, minerals, herbs, black fruits.
Why not perfect 100 ?
I wish the finish, that lasts pretty long, had some kick with more spice.
...

Anyway - this is the kind of wine, that brings a smile to my face.
And this is the most important thing.

Last bottle of three. Aromas and flavors of candied cherries immediately after decanting. Delicious. Also, some spring flowers. Medium- tannins and medium acidity. Good as a PnP wine. More red fruits appear (raspberry, strawberry) with time in the glass. After an hour or so, it transitions to black fruits and dark chocolate.

This is easily the best Sauvignon Blanc I’ve had from the States. Usually they’re either over-oaked or too fruity + the price never justifies the quality. It’s barely justified here either, but hey, when you’re tasting blind, that pretty much falls out of focus. Here we have very well made white with good depth, great fruit concentration and moderate complexity. The bright acidity brings the fruit up to the highest levels. Would’ve never said it’s a 2018, tastes as if it was bottled yesterday.

Blend of Cabaret Noir and Pinot Noir, grown on their own vineyard and anonymous Tempranillo en Cinsault, which could come from anywhere in Europe (the label says: "European Union Wine"). When I bought this, I was under the impression that it was a local wine (I once had a tasting on the vineyard in Hilversum), but this I had not expected. Altogether not a bad wine, but hard to characterize.

A seriously interesting wine from Mt. Etna that defies all expectations. This was a cloudy gold colour due some skin contact and displayed a concoction of lemon, lemon zest, orange peel, white peach and pineapple with some white blossom laced in there and a touch of honey. With more air this also showed some pine nut and the tiniest touch of nougat and actually became zippier and more energetic as time went on. A delicious drink - the product of Etna’s volcanic soils, 140 year old bush vines and organic farming.

Consistent with previous notes:Hard to keep my hands off this wine....drank with friends at dinner. Ordered a case since we are down to one bottle....

Consistent with previous note: Wow! Our first bottle after tasting at Aperture in September. Has to be one of the best white bordeaux's coming out of California today. Just a fantastic wine....even the 'only' red wine drinkers at the table loved this wine.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, strawberry jam and mineral. It tastes like strawberry jam, strawberry, blackberry, black currant (cassis) and raspberry. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Quite closed, even after 30 minutes in the glass, alcohol prickle lenes a peppery quality, black hued fruits are non-delineated, polished oak, a little creamy quality. With agitation a touch of crème du cassis, black cherry, cedar. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, black fruits are closed down by plentiful drying tannins which are quite chalky and woody, there is a lick of alcohol warmth here that feels a little cumbersome though does help to carry the fruit joined by a little rhubarb compote. Long but today, for me, it's a bit hmm

Blackcurrant tends to cassis; cedar, polished oak, baking spice; almost a little cinnamon, a jubey boiled sweet note and compote with a touch of rhubarb, blood. Lovely nose. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, black over red fruits; that rhubarb note lends an almost volatile quality, tannins are drying though powdery and in support. All travels medium plus length. Nice.
