You’ve got to love Tignanello, what an excellent wine.
After an hour in the decanter this was singing, and improved further.
We ended up having about 7 or 8 bottles in total. One bottle was off, and you could notice the ones that did not spend much time in the decanter were rather tight.
I’d say this is in a great place right now, but there is no rush to drink’s. This has up to 2 decades left on it.

Earthy, leather, slight funk on the nose. Plummy fruit behind. Touch of heat. Quite full on the palate - clearer fruit than on the nose. Plummy dark and juicy fruit - slightly mysterious but with a touch of dark orange zest I associate with Aglianico. I sense this is just on its way to developing some complexity - certainly there is already some interest. The structural components of the wine are deeply buried in ripe fruit. Long. 14.5% and you can believe it is every bit of that. Likely always will be a little warm but this has much to commend it. Wait.

Green yellow in the glass. Very floral nose with orchard fruits and some vanilla. Round, slightly buttery in a pleasant way, with great acidity and minerals followed by beautiful orchard fruits, mangos, dried flowers, barrel spice, and a pleasantly-oaky ending. Truly excellent and reaching maturity now, so in a great spot. Will seek out more!

Old favorite as good as we remember. Deep complex red with a velvety feel. One of our favorites.

Cork. 12.5% alc.
Dark cherry, hint of pomegranate, red currant, wet autumnal leaves. The fruit is clean and fragrant and develops and opens in the glass. Medium bodied. Fine and integrated tannins. Came across as a mix of Old and New World in style.

An austere firm wine with subtle characteristics. Feminine introspective nature.

Appearance: Mahogany edge consistent with 18 year old wine. Semi opaque core suggesting the lighter style of pinot. Large volume legs reflects the 13.5% alcohol level.

Nose: Subdued through out tasting. Delicate. Black plum. Licorice. Black cherries. Gooseberries. Wet earth. Nutmeg.

Palate: Austere. Firm structure with high acid and tannins. Lovely mouth feel. Similar flavours as aromas with addition mint and flowers.

Technical: Riedel Bordeaux. Temp in glass estimated as 14 degrees. Drinks well from opening to 75 minutes when it starts to fade.

Cette bouteille a bien vieilli. aucun signe de dérive.
Couleur rouge de falun assez dense.
Nez de framboise et noix grillée.
En bouche le vin est souple et gourmand, framboise et cerise en confiserie. Tanins modestes et intégrés.
Persistance moyenne.
Bon rapport Q-P

Had this with work at the Ham Yard Hotel in London.
You can tell this is an excellent and well made wine, but way too young. Even decanting this for 2 hours didn’t make much difference.
In terms of QPR…no comment.

PnP. Pale yellow fading quickly to a thin watery rim. Mild nose of lemon zest, ripe apple, and pear. On the palate it is plush with medium acidity, medium high body, and flavors of pear and saline. Short finish. It became more expressive as it warmed. While I appreciate the mouthfeel, the passive aromas and flavors are just not enough to recommend it. Maybe past its prime?

2020 DeLille Cellars D2 Columbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)

DeLille's 2020 D2 is a blend of 61% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, sourced from more than a dozen esteemed Columbia Valley vineyards. Aged for 20 months in French oak (68% new), it is a deep-to-opaque ruby wine flaunting an aromatic array of black currant and Bing cherry fruit, accented with baking spices, bittersweet chocolate, Kalamata olives, violets and tobacco. Full-bodied, seamlessly alcoholic (14.4%) and with lively acids, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, adding components of graphite and savory herbs. The oak has already integrated nicely and the tannins are plush. Dense in the middle and long on the back end, this is a delicious Bordeaux-styled blend that should show well for another decade or more. Drink now-2034.

Fresh cut white flowers, slight kerosene, ripe green apple, nectarine, slate. Really great bottle, feels like a spätlese, relatively high sweetness, but piercing acidity cuts through it beautifully. Super well balanced. Full bodied, rich and rounded texture. Long finish that makes you salivate and wanting more. Not the most concentrated Riesling, but it's no slouch. No brainer at $17

Stellar, and perhaps even a bit better than last year… but no need to wait. New World style, of course, but exactly what I’d hoped for with purity of fruit and excellent acidity.

Wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of fruit (strawberry, cherry) and a tad too sweet for my liking, but hey it’s a RRV. A little spice it seems too. Overall, a fine way to kill an evening without killing your wallet.

Medium yellow color. The nose is so vibrant and sings with these harmonies of white peach, lime, papaya, backed up with white flowers, honey, almond skin, and hints of white pepper and celery seed. On the palate, this is racy and tangy but sports significant depth, and the balance is on-point. The papaya, white peach, banana, and lime fruit blend well with elements of chalk dust, limestone, honey, sea salt, and these deep nuances that need years to develop. Beautiful to drink now (due to it’s later release), and this will age for so many years. Another win for Smith-Madrone team!

The Clos Blanc Vineyard, surviving the French revolution as an undivided property (monopole), sits adjacent to the Château du Clos de Vougeot. The 2020 version was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (23% new). Intensely aromatic and flavorful, it delivers a package of blood oranges, pit fruits, lemon verbena, wet stones and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied, crisply acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (13%) and with perfectly proportioned oak, it has excellent mid-palate density and concludes with a lengthy, energetic finish. This white Burgundy has a beautiful fruit/floral/mineral balance. Well-cellared bottles should easily see their fifteenth birthday. Drink now-2035.

Note: I use the recommended scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.

Five and a half years after the last bottle, and it is as if time has stood still. The decant was not as long, but the wine was as stellar. Sadly, my last.

A little post B-Day, hangin out poolside, smokin some ribs, just the wife and I...I think a Magnum will do! First thing you notice is how balanced and youthful this is right out the gate! Creamy and calm...engaging...yet piercing tartness of lemon and tangerine squeeze livens...gorgeous pitted orchard fruits with some honey and salt sprinkled on top...sour tarts stand at attention...ginger spice and hazelnut mousse fills the mouth...perfect nuanced brioche lees and almond liqueur add to the pleasing senses...reminds me of the beautifully complete and amazing 2002...just a little more laid back and cruising at lower rpm's...a stroll through the countryside, top down, and not a care in the world! Lovely wine!
