Magnum. Rich and well balanced, good weight and depth, at its peak now. Not as complex as the 2006 just tasted.

Magnum. Bright and completely fruit driven showing lots of bright yellow and green apple, Very good length, upside from here. Better than my previous time tasted a few months ago.

High quality dfor the price. No fruit bomb, plenty of savoury characters and some length.

Lots of tannin at this stage, but also ample fruit. Probably better in a couple years.

So rich with good power. Showcases both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir beautifully, with baked apple and berry compote both well represented. Great depth. Fully mature without coming across as tired at all.

Pale gold. Medium+ aromatic intensity. Pineapple, mango, honey, peach, vanilla, lemon, white blossoms, coconut. Maybe some American Oak? Can't find a tech sheet. Dry. Medium+ acid. Medium+ body. High alcohol. It’s quite hot; the alcohol feels out of balance. Medium+ body. More lemon and peach on the palate. Medium finish.

Late night small taste. Fresh apple on nose and palate, wonderfully fresh. Very good density and volume for village wine.

Late night small taste. Brut Nature rarely thrills me, but this was both precise and clearly rich enough to hold up to its zero dosage. Very impressive power, too.

Late night small taste. That wonderful old Burgundy nose and palate, still nicely clean and very robust, also showing clear Grand Cru density. Very good now, seemingly better than when last tasted a decade ago.

Very pretty nose, fragrant, rose, cherry and medicinal herb.

On the palate, it is a very Burgundian expression of Nebbiolo. A fragrant and eminently feminine juice, it is very floral with strawberry on a background of spices. Very good balance with acidity which brings tension and freshness. This Barolo certainly does not have the depth or complexity of other more “masculine” 2004s but it plays its part on a completely different register which seems pleasant and above all coherent to me. Beautiful, finely woody and spicy finish which extends over a good length.

Very good Barolo, I liked the style.

Good nose, nice flavors, slight bitter note on the finish. Still good. Probably mellow out in a year or two. The question is whether or not the fruit will maintain. Great QPR.

This is an interesting wine because itʻs hard to pin down. Thereʻs a few different things going on and none if it overpowers or lasts for long. Either that or my palate is just off today. There are notes of stone fruit, tropical fruit, sweet flowers, warm sugar and vanilla pudding. It has a nice viscosity, medium acid, and clean finish.

Deep dark center, red rim with modest signs of age.
Toasty and a little jammy, creamy.
Smooth, black cherries and blackberries, good tannins and acidity, oak, good toasty finish.
Drinking well now, but has the structure for a few more years.

Keep coming back to this wine and it doesn’t disappoint. Nose is earth, mineral, some bacon. Big wine pairs well with red meat. Long finish.

Retail $70. Heavy Bottle (). Under cork. I bought this bottle waaaay back in 2010, well before my blog was born. I had a tasting with Jasmine in the rudimentary "tasting room" where we went through a number of bottles over the course of a couple of hours. I am not the first to attest that Jasmine is engaging, charming, and compelling. She embraced the attributes of what she called the "extreme Sonoma Coast" and championed Hirsch vineyard (which probably needs little championing). Fairly light and a bit cloudy in the glass with black cherry and plenty of spice on the nose. The palate is reserved, or maybe demure, but it packs a wonderful punch. Incredible fruit, zingy tartness, and finishes with spice and more of that remarkable acidity. Wowza. 96 Points.

Really pretty wine. Nose overloaded with fresh peach, grapefruit honey and pear. Kabinett+ sweetness but wonderful Spätlese richness, delicate well balanced honeyed pear. Tart fizzy finish, good acid that makes the whole package incredibly refreshing. Grünhaüser makes such a compelling auction wine. Vibrant and deep.

Ripe, concentrated, “sweet”, black fruit and moderate well-integrated oak (chocolate, baking spice, toast, and vanilla). M+ rich satin tannins are balanced with the M+ lively acid and pronounced intensity. Long finish. If I’m being overly picky, the alcohol stands out just a smidge. Outstanding. A terrific example of a Sonoma Bordeaux blend.

A little over three years since my last note, this is still a light yellow colour. The nose begins with ripening pineapple with some perfumed talc, becoming steely and pungent with white-fruit taking place of the pineapple for a while, before returning to ripening yellow-fleshed fruit. The palate is open, but very minerally structured, with explosive white crunchy fruit having a deliciously addictive fruit sweetness. It isn't long in the mouth, but it is a superb village riesling that should be drinking at this level for another decade. Fine and surely a harbinger of the quality of Breuer's Nonnenberg monople from the same village in this lovely vintage.

Fragrant nose with wild strawberries, cherries, and earthy notes. Good acidity with similar flavors and some savory on the palate. Nice finish. There’s good complexity and I expect this to age beautifully. Really enjoyable wine. It did close down a bit with air…

This needed lots of time and air to open up. Medium ruby with a slight purple tint. Medium- aromatic intensity. Cedar, vanilla, leather, tobacco, raspberry, red plum, graphite. Dry. High alcohol. High tannin. Medium+ acid. Medium+ body. On the palate, leather, cedar, and menthol notes tend to dominate the fruit. Short finish. Drinkable but not great.

A bit of garnet on the rim of a deep cherry core. Slow legs.

Blackberries, cherries, wet gravel, balsamic, celery seed, tobacco leaf.

Palate confirming nose with juicy acidity, fine tannins, iron, and tapenade.

Just a bit of a mess.

Bruised apple, white peaches, and hints of warming spice. The wine lacks concentration, length, and any semblance of acidity, and serves to reinforce the notion there isn’t good Chardonnay coming out of Beaujolais.

The '98 Kabinett halbtrocken is a very interesting wine. While it's not really complex, it is incredibly vibrant and fresh for a Riesling of this age. I found limited signs of aging in the wine, both in terms of its color and in terms of the flavor profile. The aromatics are a bit simple, but on the palate the wine shines with really vibrant minerality and acid.

The nose was a bit on the light side but very fresh, with notes of lemon zest, citrus fruit and salty sea air. When first opened, the wine showed some earthy, slightly musty notes on the aromatics, but these cleared up quickly with air to reveal aromatics that show no clear signs of age in my opinion. On the palate, the wine is explosive with notes of lemon, honey, and stone fruit, with intense salinity and acidity on the back end.

Lovely Pinot Blanc, beautiful honey texture, herbs, and sweet pear. Touch of butterscotch as others have said. Wonderful over two nights.
