Gains complexity after a couple of days.

Pear, citrus fruits, herbal, fresh exotic fruits, licorice. Chalky energetic structure, with more lime showing and the herbal side. Long salivating finish with a salinity touch.

Well aged Williams but still drinking well. The fruit has faded a bit, there are relatively coarse tannins and the flavour notes are dark fruit.

Drunk from a 75cl bottle on my father's 75th birthday. The stand was perfect and it had been stored well.

I figured it would be dead though. We quickly poured it into the carafe and could already see by the color and smell that it was more than alive.

Huge experience. Crazy how Bdx can perform.

The berry flavors are too dominant right now, which hides the depth in the wine.

When traveling in Sicily, fresh local Frappato is always a delight. There are two ‘styles’, I think. The first, with a lower abv, is drunk fresh, occasionally with a slight chill, always unabashedly straightforward. It’s a “pretty” drink. The second type, with a higher abv, is more substantial and aspires to something more memorable. Lot 335 is the latter type, and a respectable presentation. I let this bottle breathe for three hours before tasting, and my first reaction was, “Wow! This is a great Frappato, but it needs at least two more years in the bottle.” If you have the patience, cellar this one for a while longer and you’ll have a gem that will rival many mature Pinot Noirs at a fraction of the cost. My score accounts for potential.

Refined and elegant version of Sassicaia, a brilliant wine. Nose already shows some evolution with tobacco mixing in with dark fruits. On palate, trademark blackcurrant, cedar and tobacco. Not sure will be the longest lived Sassicaia but very much full of appeal and elegance already early on (very unlike young Sassicaia). Obviously better to wait but can see this drinking well even before age 10.

Color was nice ruby with slight clear halo. Nose was raspberry and cherry with floral notes. Taste has the berry, olives, peppercorn, and smoke. Tannins are grippy, especially for a Syrah. Compared to an MTR of the same vintage, this was more fruit forward. I find this a very good example of the Les Collines vineyard.

tough to drink/taste immediately after a 2019 Lewelling Cab.
The Alta Nova seemed thin, acidic, and lacking balance of primary flavors/aromas. It wasn't "bad" -- it just didn't hold up well in comparison.

I shared this with my wine group at an Italian restaurant. Unusual and very very good. Despite what it should be, it reminded me of some recent Burgundy wines I've had. One of my group thought she tasted bacon. I thought it may have had some smokey notes.

Final bottle of this. Still showing nicely with some air, but definitely less fruit forward than a few years ago. Would drink up

My last of 10 bottles of this vintage. I enjoyed them all. It is still drinking very well at this stage. It felt like the Sangiovese dominated much more than the 60% that the reviewers said was in there. A nice palate cleaning acidity and a definite note of sour cherries.

OK. Easy drinking at first but developed an unpleasant finish on the palate later. Nothing great here - no complexity or structure

This was drinking very nicely. Fruit is still full, and there’s no bitterness or heat to be detected. This should have a few more years in it but it’s very nice right now.

Excellent Syrah. Deep ruby color to the edge. Nose is savory with berries and spices. Taste has that along with olive, a little coffee, bacon, and some delicious Rocks funk. Tannins are very low. The Reynvaan name is well represented here.

This is a very nice Chardonnay from Piedmont.

Pale lemon in color.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Elegant with lots of fruits.

Showing citrus, limes, green apples, light wood, earth and spices.

Tangy finish with limes and light almonds.

14% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$20.

18 base with 48 months on the lees. 40% reserve wines. Beautifully vinous and oaky nose, dig it very much. Lots of spiced pear, toasted nuts, lemon curd, bruised red apples.. the palate is less zippy and searing vs my past experiences with this cuvée; a rounder rendition, that is actually is right up my alley. Big powerful body and persistent finish.

Lovely cherry and fruit nose, and decidedly more fruit forward but not overbearing -- I had it in 2021 (not the same vintage). And it really had a nice balance with the fruit on the tip of the tongue and then mild acid on the back of the pallette. And you can taste the limestone at the back of the pallette. amazing very subtle.

Excellent Ramonet Rouge, probably the best rendition that I’ve had. The wine itself is elegant, light and very stemmy/spicy with some reduction. Restrained strawberry fruits mixed in with some sour cherries. Powdery tannin. Lovely.

Thick and medium weighted, this wine opened with a slightly stale funk in the nose that wasn’t carried in the pallet and blew off after a couple of hours. Dark cherry and a touch of pine predominated. I’m not familiar with this wine, but based on other northern Nebbiolos, I suspect that this wine had gently oxidized.

Smooth and full bodied and open for business after a 4 hour decant. Some of the 18's are closed, but not this one. Sweet blue and black fruit with a silky mid palate. Finish was smooth without hard edges. The wine is terrific and a great value. Enjoy now or over the next 5 years. If you like them fresh then now is a good time to open a bottle.

I bought this as a remaindered offering. I generally love cru Morgon for its versatility and muscularity. This bottle didn’t exhibit those qualities, though. It presented more like a cru Julienas. It was still tasty and well made: just not true to type.

White Burgundy at Astoria: My contribution. Slightly sweet and tropical to begin with, but gained minerality with time in the glass so someone managed to impressively guess as a MP. Old-school in style with a generous dose of oak, ripe fruit but austere winemaking so this needed time to open up nicely.

Reductive initially, touch of baked bean, black fruits are a slightly non-delineated initially but with air and time they start showing plums over blackcurrant and blackberry. Juicy, dense, dark fruits are concentrated to the point of savouriness, Alcohol warmth is present, super persistent tannins are silky , slightly drying, all travel ridiculously long, years required.

Touch of dirty glass. Savoury red berry, Mataro notes grow with time, black berry, violet, plums, sweet spice. Juicy, fleshy, alcohol present , slightly chewy tannins are textured, drying, muted black and red fruit, clean, fruit gets slightly jammy with time, possibly the carbo crush quality is derived from the Grenache.

Initially quite spiced and savoury with red berry fruit, some wild ferment funkiness (?), with time and air this gets more obviously fruit lozenge with a touch of carbo crush (again ?). Juicy, fleshy, strawberry compote with raspberry and a little cherry, talc textured tannins persist, alcohol warmth well managed on the finish. Apparently (now things make sense) this is 100% whole bunch and wild ferment.

Cream, rich, apple, a little fresh herbs, touch of sweet spice. Tangy, juicy tending to medium plus intensity acidity, mid palate texture, a little creaminess, quite rich on the palate as well. Slightly disjointed in the mouth, perhaps time will help, lees work? Old oak? Apparently not! Back in my tasting box I go. Interesting

2019 Marietta Cellars Armé California Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
The 2019 Marietta Arme is a very uninteresting wine. I popped and I poured, and I wasn't particularly impressed. This is not a fruit driven wine at all. The finish is somewhat chalky, and a bit muted. Is it worth $29 a bottle? Not really.

It does smell a little young on nose but there is a lot of promise with vanilla, kirsh, and red berry. On taste, all the above plus black pepper, licorice?, hint of tobacco, balsamic, leather. Very nice CDP, probably needs a couple years but this is drinking now.

White Burgundy at Astoria: Obviously youthful but clearly another top wine from an old-school winemaker, guessed Ramonet this time round. Round and creamy texture even though apparently this was reductive at first. Textbook example of superb matière; an iron fist in velvet glove kind of wine. A gorgeous wine even if it wasn’t quite ready for primetime yet.
