How old is this wine? 5 years old?? Tasted insanely young. Good body, weight, medium acidity, rounded, fat. Good juice.

Flight 2 (7 notes)

Red
1982 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Almost no rim. Bloody meat, iodine, medicinal, gamey and carnal on the nose. Once again, more carnal than a sin on the savory palate. Tannins are almost unnoticeable. Texture is silky smooth. Finish is long, very long. Great effort.
Red
1982 Château Léoville Poyferré France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Deep crimson red. More muted than the Pichon Comtesse. Some mineral notes. Good structure. Tannins are still a bit dusty even after over 3 decades. Acidity is medium plus. After 20 minutes, nose starts to open up and gains complexity, some gaminess. This needs some more decanting time to fully evolve. Better on the palate than the Comtesse but not on the nose. Finish is medium plus. Like it but do not love it.

1989 Château Margaux France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Sweeter nose than the Poyferre. A bit of fresh blood. Lively on the palate. Medium plus acidity. Still can't believe this is an '89. On the palate, fruitful, persistent. Great structure. At least a 30 second finish. Amazing effort.

Definitely more tannic than the other wines we've had tonight. Nose, although a little tight, is more indicative of age than palate. It definitely needs more than an hour of decanting. Seems more austere and young than earlier wines. It still is a great wine with notes of violets, leather and ash, velvety-plush on the palate and 20+ finish.

1982 Château L'Evangile France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

A little bricking around the rim. Layered, complex nose. There's a mixture of old and young on the nose. It's just lovely. Good definition on the palate. Magnificent structure. Endless finish. Stunning effort. My WOTN. One of the best wines I've tried in my life.

Much more feminine than any other wine we drank tonight. Tighter on the palate. Finishes shorter than the others. It still is a great wine thought. Good extract, finesse and balance.

1989 Château La Mission Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

My third favorite wine of the evening. Not as complex as the '82 L'Evangile or the '89 Margaux but it still is not far behind. Superb extract. A bit dusty. Good structure. Dense yet not cloying. Long finish. Lovely effort.

No formal notes taken. Very good wine though. Thick as hell.
