Flight 1 - Paulèe Wines - White Grand Crus from South of Beaune (9 notes)
White
2010 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet
Extremely youthful but so good. Loads of lemon, acid and tension. A ton of potential here. This was easily the best young wine of the day.
White
2002 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
This bottle was much fresher than mine (same source though). There was some stony minerality with nice lemon and orchard fruit flavours. Quite good.
White
2002 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet
I thought there was a slight hint of TCA on the nose here but I seemed to be in the minority. However, it was very subtle and behind it was still an excellent wine. Mint, citrus and youthful freshness and acidity.
White
2006 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Chevalier-Montrachet
This is was very nice for an 06. Quite precise and energetic with solid acidity. Would never have guessed 06 if this was served blind. Excellent.
White
2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet Domaine
Very young but outstanding. Lots of potential. Just needs a decade. Bouchard killed it in 08 for their whites.
White
2004 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
This was quite rich and tropical in profile but has the energy and acidity to keep everything in balance. Round and rich on the entry but then there's plenty of cut and acidity on the finish. Excellent.
Flight 2 - Lunch Wines (5 notes)
White
2002 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Drinking well, good acidity, some Chablis notes but doesn't scream 'Chablis' to me. Regardless, an excellent wine.
Red
2001 Prince Florent de Merode Corton-Bressandes
I found this to be a little roasted in nature but also quite light on its feet. Very good.
Red
2001 Prince Florent de Merode Corton-Clos du Roi
Preferred this over the Bressandes. A bit more structured but drinking well at the moment.
Red
2000 Nicolas Potel Bonnes Mares
Easily the best red of the lunch. Young but very approachable and drinking well as you might expect given the vintage. Darker pinot fruits with nice acidity. Excellent.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Doisy-Daëne
Consistent with other bottles: safron and sweet pineapple with a warm profile and lacking in acidity. Haven't enjoyed any '03 Sauternes yet.
